    • But not in the headline, or the introduction to the piece. These make it sound as if it is Damon who will “blow our minds” not Zinn.

      • That’s true, but sadly, Howard Zinn is not widely known in this country (should be) but Matt Damon is … I applaud him for leveraging his celebrity in a positive direction. How many more people will watch and start to consider the words because they come out of his mouth?

    • Seriously low dog journalism:
“YOU THINK YOU KNOW SOMEONE, AND THEN HE GETS ON A STAGE AND BLOWS YOUR MIND”
Could hardly be a more direct way to let people think this is Damon’s words. 4th estate seriously complicit in fooling us into false ends.

  • This sounds good and inspirational. I would like to see the framework to implement such ideas into actions. Unfortunately, all you have to do is follow the money to know where we are going to be taken. Collectives of well-intentioned people are better at discussing rather than achieving such lofty goals.

    • There are numerous things we can do. We don’t have to wait for laws. Let’s just do the right thing now. For example, take your money out of the big banks and use credit unions, buy only organic, don’t buy anything new, buy used, don’t buy from big box stores, use cash for making purchases locally because they pay a fee to the credit card companies. Use credit cards only at gas stations and supermarket chains. Buy organic because that supports good farming practices. Sometimes I think of others but there’s a whole lot here.

      • “Big banks” give THOUSANDS of people jobs, not even just the people that work for them. Think about the construction workers that build for them, the software companies that help develop their products and the service sector that cleans them. Walmart hires people that noone else will. Credit unions ALSO do good but do not have the capacity to support the needs of mass amounts of people and their needs ( which is why there is a migration BACK) I have both! I need both! I also choose organic food myself, but know that currently we could not possibly support the nation’s food needs with only organic food. Maybe we just need the right people working in the right places to make a difference with the resources we already have. These extremes are what cause so much damage! Seek balance and seek to make a difference no matter where you work or who you work for. It IS in our hands! So shut up and go to work!

        • If everyone moves to credit unions, the credit unions will need to hire the bank employees who lost their jobs because the corrupt banks were shut down. If everyone buys organic foods, it will cause the demand for the family farm to once again rise above the farms run by big business that are intentionally poisoning us all with products that are full of chemicals, medicines, and sickness. It isn’t the extremes causing damage, it is the corruption. You are right, it is in our hands to make the world right once again. Several European countries have seen the light and are moving away from the corruption. May we do the same before it is too late.

    • Voting 3rd party in conjunction with other forms of activism is what’s needed. Another puppet republicrat will continue the same BS that Bush Jr. and Obama have done. Another installed republicrat will continue to finance foreign aid operations like the U.S. funded rape holocaust in the Congo.

  • I agree with Blake. It sounds good on paper and in this speech, but how do we obtain that kind of control back when Americans stand threatened by their own govt and live in fear of retribution? Were is the backbone of America from the 60’s and 70’s where we stood up for the rights with boycotts and large rally to promote peace? Is this America gone for good?

    • We don’t have to go along with everything so much and support those who go against the rules. Even in driving. We sit at a red arrow in the middle of the night with nobody around for miles. We obey arrows! We obey anyone that purports to be “in authority”. We consent. Well cancel that contract and just know that we adhere to universal law not laws made by criminals. Here’s a guy who did it and it’s inspirational: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=714094318618828

    • Any mass demonstrations will be dealt with severely…..if they are allowed at all. The tactics will include: surveillance of any organizers up to and including arrest in the middle of the night (on charges that will later be dismissed) to quash the event, “corralling” or splitting up the demonstrators to keep them from amassing, arresting them for (a) standing on the sidewalk (b) not standing on the sidewalk (c) not “moving” (d) moving (e) *not* doing anything at all they are told to, despite the legality or even the sensibleness (f) ad nauseum, because by now you are getting the picture. Some have been arrested on felony and/or terrorism charges for holding signs which say things comparing banks to crimes with guns.

The only way to win? Well…as I see it: Mass non-violent civil disobedience. If 100,000 people all were to sit down in the street at the same time, what could the “authorities” do? They can only arrest so many.

I believe that this tactic would quickly break the death-grip the Rulers have on us. (As far as keeping us from demonstrating.) Once it caught on, the Rulers would either have to capitulate, or escalate, with escalation being the more likely. They’d call it a “threat to national security” and water or sound cannon all the demonstrators.

      Am I wrong?

      • knowing how things are i would assume if anything like that were to happen the government (obama) would try and declare martial law and use whatever powers he could to use our military (even though the Consitution Bans this), our Guardsmen, our law enforcement to come out against us. He has prepaired for this. Guardsmen are suspose to be under the control of the Governor of the State in which they are. There are currently only 7 states inwhich this is true anymore. Changes have been made without alot of people knowing this already. That is why Obama fired over 200 High ranking military command officers this year already. Because they would NOT follow his orders blindly. He has been setting up the world stage for this. Check it out. Im not joking. And I am prior USAF myself. I personally cant say how many of our own military would stand up and fight against the American People but it is a scarry thought. This is why all our guns are registered our bullets are accounted for and it it hard to get more now.

        • People need land, shelter & a food supply to stave off homelessness. Our government holds in “trust for” us nearly 30% of our land which is equivalent to 1,115,344 square miles and is equal to the combined land masses of Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Greece, New Zealand, Ireland, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Liechtenstein, the Cayman Islands, Anguilla, and Bermuda. Combined these countries support populations of 383,502,896 people which is 66,533,896 MORE PEOPLE THAN THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF THE UNITED STATES in the 1/3 of the land mass the U.S. government controls. yet the poverty rate in the U.S. is higher than ever with these stats available – “Higher recent rates of unemployment mean the lifetime risk of experiencing economic insecurity now runs even higher: 79%, or 4 in 5 adults, by the time they turn 60.

The banks hoard 18.6 million homes to protect the market while throwing the families in them out onto the streets. We must protect PEOPLE, not profit.

What we the People need to do is agree that through taxation, mortgages based on invented money and usurious interest rates, bailouts, etc. that we have PAID IN FULL FOR AMERICA. Then hold a debt jubilee so we no longer have any obligation to the creators of fake money and so that all homes are owned outright by their occupants. Then make sure that every American has a free and fair share of the land and its resources so we each have bootstraps to pull up on. This will likely end all wars, most crime, violence and real suffering in our society. Who wouldn’t choose this?

        • Then get the word out to the military, cause all of them come from a family that would be fighting back, they will definitely not come and shoot their own family ,would they?

          • Many would, if history is any indication. This is why the government has been undermining the family unit. People who depend on the State for healthcare, food, clothing, water, and shelter are more likely to passively allow the State to accrue illegitimate power because they fear not doing so will result in a loss of those giveaways. The first loyalty is to the provider, which is increasingly not your family unit but your State government. It has already destroyed black families and whites are on their way.

Add in an educational system dominated by the State and an economy so badly corrupted that the only real option for young adults is government/military jobs, and you’ve got a recipe for trouble. Would a 22 year old infantry Sergeant with 2 kids fight on for the State against his fellow Americans if choosing not to resulted in a loss of benefits and being tossed out into the sea of unemployed? I certainly fear that answer.

          • Yes they will, for the simple reason of survival!!!Can anyone blame them? NO!!!It is to late to try and change the “system” because we slept while they were implementing the “system”! All that is left for us (the public of the WHOLE world) is to go with the flow and at least SURVIVE!!!I for one will NEVER let my family suffer for the good of my fellow man, because 9out of 10 times they WON’T do that for you,BECAUSE they also say the same as I survival is foremost important!!!!!

        • I am not to much of an Obama fan, but you my friend have been completely brainwashed by the Koch-pac machines. Either that or you are just plain ignorant. All our guns are registered???? IF ONLY! Bullets accounted for???? lol The same people pushing these lies (The gun manufacturers and their lobbyists, the NRA) are busy cranking out millions of rounds of ammunition a day, and have made it impossible to have even the most pathetic tea party lunatics and the criminally insane register their guns. Even murderous assholes like Zimmerman own unregistered weapons. Nope, sorry Mr. ex-USAF but the only things you have to have ID’s and registration for these days is to Vote (a democratic right) and to drive a car.

          • He was talking about the rifles and guns on military posts and bases. They are all locked away from the troops. You don’t use them usless you have authorization…he was not referring to privately held firearms. BTW most crimes are committed by illegally obtained firearms. The second amendment is the only thing holding our Leviathan gov. at bay.

          • How do you spell “liar”, and do you consider yourself to be bright? BTW, data is not the plural for anecdote.

        • Are you kidding? You think the US govt using the military to put down uprising of US citizens started with Obama???Then you know nothing of labor strikes, antiwar movements and civil rights movements. Not to speak of the Patriot Act. How old are you?

      • Yes. You are. What then? The mobs have no patience. They will believe they get what they want and go home.

Then what? That is why things end up the way they do, time after time. It takes everyone being willing to always fight for each other’s freeman rights.

Why do you think they (rulers) advocate a disarmed society?

        • Concur about the Rulers wanting an asymmetrical power balance. I am very pro-2nd amendment, AND I’m a flaming Liberal. (There should be no more rights takenaway from the people, certainly not such an explicitly deliniated one)

What I’ve noticed is that there is almost no change in the Status Quo regardless of which bought-and-paid-forr party occupies the White House. Studies show that our elected officials do not represent us; they represent those with money. What will it take for Americans to shrug off the people who are suppposed to represent them, but instead are f%#*^%g them?

          • Amen, you sound more like a libertarian than a dem. If you are a dem, maybe it’s time to start checking out the libertarian circles.

      • They have Fema camps placed all across the country to accommodate the ‘civilly disobedient’, and ‘prolonged detention’ to ensure they change nothing.

      • You could be wrong.. or right. But I think the KEY is to remain open to other options. I think it possible that the “over-reaction” to mass civil disobedience tends to unleash a sometimes a more unified and greater mass of disobedience. Early protestors will bear the brunt of violence by the “state” (or city) but serve the purpose of sacrificial lambs. i.e. the Kent State massacre was a more “powerful” event than all the other demonstrations put together. Why? Human nature. Revulsion changed a lot of minds. Anger and disbelief changed even more and also activated sympathy for the anti-war movement.

BUT…. If that doesn’t produce the desired result, consider introducing a new paradigm that might produce the desired result in a freaking hurry. Civil disobedience can also take the form of withdrawal, of NOT SHOWING UP. Given that the “Forces of Evil” that we are facing are Banks and other Multi-National Corporations, who’s lifeblood is the flow of money,.. get their attention by interrupting the flow of money. Make the necessary preparations in your own life to sustain you for the short amount of time it will take to produce the desired result, and STOP SHOWING UP. Remove yourself from their equation, from their economy. The bastards are living in a delusion in which WE are only consumers, not an integral part of their survival as institutions. Remove your money from their institutions, remove your debt payments and divest yourself of investments in their economy, then remove yourself, by not going to work, by not patronizing big box stores and the products of the Multi-nationals. The politicians will see a huge drop in “Withholding” cash flow. The are three primary labor unions that could shut down the flow of product (and a lot of people) in this nation in ONE DAY if they got in on the act.

As in any movement, the biggest hurdle is to get large masses of people off their asses, even if each is only going to take baby steps like boycotting, while others do the confrontation part.

      • The Beacon of Light has had the color of the bulb changed.
Those people made a clear and open Declaration of Open Rebellion.

Today, EVERYTHING is Taxed, and we take it in stride. The hours of our lives, our very value is up to arbitrary “minimum wages” aimed at appeasement.

Everyday that passes by more and more children are being either indoctrinated or turned against the very nation they are being raised in.

So many social divides, this country cannot be United through one rallying cry alone

There is no enemy without, there is only the enemy within.

If we truly are the “99%” I shed a lone tear, for we resign ourselves to defeat as we are 99% powerless.

    • You should search about the civil problem in Michoacan México. There an example of civil disobedience and people control is taking place, really inspiring for the entire country. It can be done, the only problem is the state of confort that every one has. Revolutions starts in dead ends.

    • “We” start by first eliminating the word “we” from our vocabulary, followed very closely by eliminating “have to”. When “we” finally acknowledge that it’s OK for “ME” to be LEFT THE F*** ALONE! by “we”, it’ll be a better world. Because a world in which “we” leaves ME alone, “We” will leave YOU alone, too.

    • Uhhh, hate to break it to ya bud, those of you that were protesting etc are the voting force now. Your generation is responsible for this mess.

    • It’s not the gov’t that is pulling the strings of the nation. It is the super rich a la the MIC, the O&G industry, the banks (especially the FED), and the giant media establishments (Fox is the most dedicated to social control, but the rest are close behind)… these giant corporations and financial institutions have commandeered our democratic process. The media, owned by large conglomerates and super wealthy individuals is spreading a unique misinformation campaign where they share only some relevant information, twisted to push an agenda, and ignore other information that is far more significant, but contradicts their agenda. We can stand united, but united to some means that others must go. Our world is all we have. When people see that, they will make better choices (and they better see it soon, because it needs our help to survive!).

    • The problem is compliance. Americans can be held in fear of retribution simply because we have no association with unity. We let our day to day lives divide us. MSM uses all the tools they can to create a divisive culture in America: racism, politics, religion, etc. As long as we let the Gov’t and MSM work in unison to divide and conquer the will of the American people to be seen as one, we will never achieve the power in ourselves to stand up against Gov’t. When we strip the labels they give us, the camps they want us to be in, and we start to care more about our fellow man more than the Kardashians, we will be able to stand together and fight any retribution the Gov’t puts upon an individual, for they will be acting against the whole of US! Freedom wasn’t easy to gain back in 1776, and it sure as hell isn’t going to be easy now, but I’m ready for the fight.

    • I’ve been asking this for years. We seem to have lost our balls as a society somewhere in the last 40 years or so, and that makes implementing the spirit of this speech nearly impossible. My parents’ generation would have revolted rather than allowed their government to behave the way it does today. Cameras on every street corner, the Patriot Act, things like that never would’ve happened. We’re happy nowadays to sit back, get fat, and hope the government is “taking care of us” at whatever cost (and believe them when they say they are), and barely raise a stir when they behave badly.

  • And yet… let a “Repuglican” disobey, and watch this shallow, myopic little jack wagon call them “obstructionists”.

This guy is the furthest thing from the nuanced, erudite thinker the left credits him as being.

    • Go away teabagger. The citizens of this country are tired of your lies and holding the country, the Republican Party, and the citizens of this country back. By 2016, your “leaders” will all have slithered away back to oblivion along with Sanitroium, Palin, Bachmann, and others.

    • He’s criticized the left multiple times. These are not left vs right issues he’s talking about.

Look past your tribalism. I know you can do it if you try. I believe in you.

      • Oh yeah. Real centrist guy, that one.
A quick perusal of your prior posts reveals that you’re every bit as left leaning as Damon, EColi. And that quick perusal further reveals that you’ve previously used your trite little “tribalism” soliloquy as well.

It may not be the literary gem you apparently think it is.

        • Maybe you should try viewing his statements from a bi-partisan unbiased viewpoint instead of trying to bottle him into one thing or another. Be honest with yourself, do people express their beliefs from a Political standpoint all the time? Or do people express their beliefs from a standpoint of their own that might relate to politics. I heard Matt Damon talk about the problems of the World. Not a partisan attack.

All of the problems are our problems. We created this massive mess. We feed a machine that would die without us. We want cheap goods from China, but want to ignore that Americans aren’t getting the jobs that we should be giving them to make these products. Everybody is guilty of profiting off of the backs of the poor – and now it is coming back to haunt us.

The Wealthy elite aren’t the only problem out there. There is greed everywhere. The system is unbalanced, we will never have economic freedom and stability in the World until everybody has the same opportunities that we have in a first World nation. Damon’s opinion is just one opinion.

  • Matt Damon, the one percent condemning the one percent. Anything for attention and to make people think he is something he really is not.

    • Yeah. If he wanted to have an opinion on wealth inequality in the country, he should have never made any money. Because we all know that you shouldn’t have opinions about things that you know about.

    • I had this thought for a fleeting moment. Then I realized that condemning him for recognizing that the wealth distribution is fucked and agreeing something should be done about it, even though he benefits from it, is like saying white people who are against racism are hypocritical. Its not his fault he came out on the upside of an unbalanced system, and he didn’t earn his immense wealth through corruption, fraud, crime, exploitation and/or greed, nor does he use his wealth that way now, like the people who are accountable for fucking up the system did.

      • Yeah but even the rich can keep their carbon footprint low. They don’t have to live in fancy houses. They can start a foundation with the money over say $1M. That’s enough, that’s more than enough. Even living at that level is extravagant. If you’re an environmentalist then you should be living within about a 60K income level. That is comfortable (not if you jet around in fossil fuels everywhere though) Even the famous must be held to a low carbon footprint. It is still comfortable but there is no place for extravagance anymore. It’s just obscene with seven billion on the planet.

        • Carbon footprint is a ridiculous term. You could be a fat slob living in a 2000 sq foot home that drives a massive SUV and leave a larger carbon footprint then a ultra rich person. We don’t live in China or Cuba – you don’t get to tell people how much money they can have or how they can level. Everybody wants to be rich. Being rich gives you the freedom to do the things you want to do and live the way you want to live. If everybody was rich we wouldn’t have the problems we have now – because everybody would be equal.

There are many many Billionaires out there right now donating entire fortunes to help the poor, to fight disease etc. The kids have been left out of the Will. Buffet and Gates left an undisclosed amount to their kids, I am sure it is a handsome some. But not Billions.

Just because a person has money – doesn’t mean they are evil or the villain. I know somebody who is extremely rich – he is nicer then pretty much any other half assessed person I work with. He is humble and helps others. You wouldn’t be able to tell he is rich. He drives a Nissan Ultima and is worth over $100 Million. He lives a modest house.

Money isn’t the problem. People are the problem. People create money problems. The root of all evil is not money – it is the people that control it.

          • With that being said BILL Gates, is one of those Evil people, whom earned his money stealing from others, backstabbing others, not to mention the biggest advocate for poisonous vaccines.. HE should NOT EVER be lumped into a group of do gooder billionaires.. Although i fully agree with the rest of your statement 😀

    • Matt didn’t steal money. It’s not a crime to be rich. One extreme is to become a criminal in order to get money. The other extreme is to believe being rich is a sin.

    • Lawyers and people making over $200,000 are 1%. The real people you are talking about are the 0.01%. The Billionaires, Kings and Elite. He is trying to do his part. He earned his money the right way. Off his back not off of others.

    • really? compare Matt Damon’s career to that of his former Boston room mate. Never remember Matt donning a super hero costume for box office sales…unless acting in the movie the Green Zone, which questions if WMD ever existed in Iraq, to be selling out…Yes, he’s an actor, making money, and also trying to make a point…why should it be wrong for someone to use their popularity to draw attention to a problem or issue? Is it any different than FarmAid, BandAid or the 2012 concert to benefit survivors of Sandy?

  • How do we start.. By taking back control.. Control of who we allow to be elected into office. Who we allow to vote for us in the house and in the Senate. Who we allow to work for us and install the programs and laws that we as Citizen through vote allow them to enact. We make it very clear to any and all politicians, you work for us and if you go off track to work for corporations or to be swayed into voting for issues that are not in the best interest of us, the citizens of this country, that politician we will demand their resignation and they will leave office. We have the right through voting to take this country back and not put up with the crap thats going on.. Any employee of companies in this country to fail drug test are terminated. We have a congressional officer who needs to be relieved from his duties permanently. This is the time for the Watchers to be watched..

  • He got a lot right. He understands the symptoms, but he is myopic.

    He
has no clue about what is causing the symptoms nor the full solution.
He is awakening and headed in the right direction. I do not think he
is a capitalist nor does he understand capitalism.
He seems to think that weath is a zero sum game. That is very scary.

  • AGAIN WITH NIXON AND MCCARTHY! HAVE ANY OF THESE CELEBUTARDS EVER HEARD THE NAME OF THE GUY CURRENTLY IN THE WHITE HOUSE AND IF SO WHY DO THEY REFUSE TO SAY HIS NAME? ……. REPEAT AFTER ME HOLLYWOOD RETARDS, “OBAMA.” REPEAT AFTER ME, “OOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAAA MAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.”

    • it says he’s reading from a Howard Zinn speech.
Reading comprehension skills. Repeat after me, “READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS”

    • He’s reading from one of Zinn’s speeches from 1970… so Nixon was very relevant. Did you not read the title before going off on your tirade?

  • obedience is NOT the problem, the problem is who we choose to be obedient too, if people chose to be obedient to God and follow his ways than we wouldn’t have the imbalance in society to begin with. the world says: “me first then everyone else” God says : “treat others as you would treat yourself”. if you want to be disobedient choose to be disobedient to hate, be obedient to love; but what is love truly? Love is to be patient, love is to be kind, love is to put others needs before your own, love does not envy, love does not boast, love is not proud, love is not rude, love means you are not angered easily, love is not self seeking, love keeps no records of wrong, love does not delight in evil but rejoices with truth. love protects, love trusts, love hopes, love perseveres and love never fails. again obedience is not the problem, because you are always going to be obedient to someone or something or else there will be anarchy, since we agree the ways of the world is NOT working why not choose to be obedient to God’s ways and no not man’s ideas of what God’s ways is or choose to be, but rather what He himself has penned in the book about himself he has left us….. read the bible for yourself and stop listening to the false ideas you might have about God and if you at first do not understand it , read it again… after all Oprah will still be there in the morning, but life as you know it might not.

    • The bible has been used to keep my best friend obedient to an abusive husband for far to many years, he uses it in anger for control, he uses it to crush her hopes, he uses it and his silver sharp tongue to boast that he is more godly than she and therefor she must repent her sins for wanting to leave a marriage that has torn her down and almost erased every last bit of who she is. I’ve read the new testament. Shortly after Jesus was killed a community was formed. The spiritual leaders demanded the community tithe. One couple did not. God smote them to the ground instantly with lightning. That is not love and understanding. That is malice, greed and control. So please excuse me if I do not share your ideals.

      • Raphael, you plainly read the New Testament a long time ago, while drunk.

Firstly, they were not struck down with lightning so stop embroidering.

Secondly, you miss the point entirely. They were not struck down because they refused to tithe. They didn’t even have to join the early church: if that were the compulsion why didn’t God strike down everyone who didn’t respond to the apostles’ preaching?

They were struck down because they lied to God about what they had tithed. They were given a chance to ‘fess up and they didn’t take it. Please get your theological facts straight.

      • well a Godly man would love his wife as Christ loved the church, so no from what you are saying does not sound like he is a man of faith at all, a man of religion maybe but not faith. As for the incorrect quote, no God does not demand us to tithe that is old testament ! When it comes to giving you give what God has laid on your heart to give and you do so joyfully; and according to Matthew you are also not suppose to tell anyone what you gave or did,is between you and God. The couple you are referring to chose to give all the money from their land to the church but then deceived the leaders by telling them that they gave everything which they didn’t. Besides if you read carefully you would see the reason they died is because they thought they could buy their way into heaven. We are not saved by work or money but by faith. In both examples you gave it shows your negativity comes from church leadership and not God. Well then why are you allowing people to give you a distorted view of who God is; reality…99% people professing to be christian , are not. There are many false teachers pretending to be men of god , it is imperative that we study the bible for ourselves, in the new testament in nearly all of Paul letters you would see him warning against false teachers.A true mature Christian leader is supposed to be (according to Ephesians)be a carbon copy of Jesus; like I said there are very few true believers in today’s world.Get to know God on a personal level before choosing to right Him off. As for a Godly man you will know one when you meet one; and he would not need to tell you he is a believer in Christ.

        • I do agree with much you are saying but not with some. I do know that if more who proclaim to be men of god carried traits of Jesus then the world would be a much better place. Sad fact is, through my life, I have encountered very few that actually do. I agree that the world needs to find more love and understanding, the exact kind you speak of and the exact kind Jesus demonstrated. I believe that if it could happen the worlds problems would simply wash away like some bad dream. But I do not agree that if a man, who knows nothing of god or the bible, who spends his hole life through kindness, compassion and good deeds, can have his goodness and kindness claimed by a god he never may have known, let alone one god from one particular religion. I judge gods in the same light I judge men. It is demeaning for any religion to step into a persons life and claim responsibility for all good they have done. As I would not go to a charity that is feeding the homeless and claim that I am the reason these people are doing good, neither can god. It is from within the individual to choose to do those things. When I read the new testament, which I did and excuse me for not remembering the exact situation to a tee, Jesus while alive was a wonderful kind man who was the embodiment of compassion, understanding, selflessness and so much more. I wish all who claimed to be christian demonstrated that. But I know far more who use the bible to meet their own ends, bolster their own self righteousness, and control everything around them. It makes me intensely sad that a story of such a wonderful man is used in this way. In regards to tithing lets look at that section of the bible, which IS in the new testament.

          Acts 5:1-11

Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.
Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God.”
When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. Then the young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.
About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”
“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”
Peter said to her, “How could you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”
At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.

So if god, from the bible, is responsible for all things then it is gods work that they died right then for no other reason apart from holding money from the church and lying. So they betrayed god and therefore deserved to die in the eyes of the church leaders. If you had a child that went and worked at a job, then came home, would you demand part of his pay check or else he deserves to die. If we are to embody godly traits then we would kill that child for lying to us. The church’s leaders were gifted with silver tongues to twist and manipulate the situation to make Ananias appear as the worst kind of human, as well so did the men who wrote the bible. The men who wrote the bible made an example of Ananias to show this is what god will do to you when you lie to us and with hold money from the church. Would you treat a child you claim to love like this.

This is just one of countless examples of abusive and controlling church leadership. The bible does not have the right to do so and nor does it or any god have the right to claim responsibility for the kindness and love in the hearts of people. The compassion and empathy of people is to be celebrated above all else in my belief, I agree. But, I believe it is found within us, not some book.

I believe that if that could happen the worlds problems would simply wash away like some bad dream. It makes me intensely sad that a story of such a wonderful man can be used in this way. In regards to tithing lets look at that section of the bible, which IS in the new testament.

          Acts 5:1-11

    • Obedience to god is at the root of some of the most egregious crimes in history – the crusades and the inquisition, burning witches, the genocide of the native Americans, the religious wars in Europe prior to the renaissance, the partisan civil war in Northern Ireland, the modern crisis in the Middle East, slavery in virtually every country in the world (condoned because the enslaved people were heathens), the suppression of women and women’s rights, the persecution of homosexuals, …. and on and on and on. There are 7 Billion people on earth right now – how many gods are represented? Why is your version the correct one? Most people “believe” only what they were taught to believe – and never question, or see that those beliefs are being used to suppress and marginalize others.

  • It isn’t the fact that there are laws that’s the problem at all! It’s who’s making them – the corporations & bankers. We can reclaim the People’s government and make laws that protect us like Anti-GMO, Anti-Fracking, Anti-Lobbying, etc. Let’s make sure we keep the focus on who’s really running things and not shoot ourselves in the foot by stripping what protections remain by toppling the government, we need to weed out the corruption and get it back to We The People, as intended and written.

    • I doubt the people who make their livings farming GMO crops, or fracking for natural gas would feel “protected.” I doubt all the businesses that run on clean energy produced by fracking would feel “protected.” I guess all the people who aren’t starving to death because of GMO crops wouldn’t feel “protected.” I guess the people who feel like they’re not getting a voice in their government because they’re not allowed to petition the government for redress of grievances (otherwise known as lobbying) wouldn’t feel protected.

There are vast swaths of people out there who don’t share your values and goals. Will they feel “protected” when you force your plans on them?

      • To be quite honest, cloud, you describe short-term job losses with transferable skills. A GMO farmer can easily revert to conventional farming. All frackers have previously done conventional gas and oil exploration.
How can energy from fracking [the most destructive and wasteful method ever devised] ever be described as clean?
Who has been saved from starvation by GMO?
I tend to agree with you on lobbying but you must admit it needs drastic change in some way.

We must think long-term here and not allow short-term discomfort to prevent positive long-term change. The vast majority of people in the West blithely accepted our “bad medicine” of austerity because we were promised it would all get better. Has it? Will it? Look at the world – short-term a GMO farmer or fracker will be just fine financially, meanwhile many millions of people live on less than a dollar a day. Now is a time for change. A new set of demands. The people taking control once more.

  • If I may throw in my 2 cents. We ALL need to become ONE. Not Rep. or Dem., nor Tea Party or Occupy. Not Christian or Muslim, nor American or European. These distinctions are our chains, they bind us to the floor. We need to become humans for humanity. Then and only then can we become a significant force, equal to the task. ONE.

          • Ha but the 4 legs became bad too. It’s all about power. It corrupts people. Isn’t that what Animal farm was all about. We all think we can do it better and usually fall into to same greedy traps. The problem is knowing who is greedy or will be greedy once in charge. .. Just a thought… Love to you all .

          • Animal Farm could be argued as a power exploration expository. Most find the Prince by Machiavelli to be the main take on the corruption that is coupled with power. Animal Farm had an array of personality types it really had an amazing way of depicting the various characters and the interactive forms and how each was part of the overarching system.

I can answer your question, 99.9999% will become greedy. The DOJ declines to take 85% of all fraud cases filed. If they intervened and prosecuted that alone would generate over $1 trillion a year in recovered tax dollars. By example Pfizer returned over $2.3 billion as one Qui Tam case, stats per Taxpayers Against Fraud.

I really try to serve others when those rare instances present. I try to do the right thing all the time, even though I fail and fall often. I understand ethics and morals and traditions and the importance of these virtues within society. I constantly will put my own feet to the fire and will burden myself with standards that far exceed those which I expect of others.

However, even me, and go Google my name I am a whistleblower and fraud fighter, even me has been put in a place that tested the greed and corruption. It was a small contract, but boy did I go there and start to believe my own PR. Self will consume you like a maggot on a dung heap.

Here is some insight to those who never had been seduced by the cup of power, it is not the wealth or the money or things, I am a minimalist. The idea that I deserved it because my unique way and well known high flying standards deserved what was coming. I just imagined the sign of my corporation raised high on a building in Crystal City.

It was the separation from the rest of you, the rising above, the distinction, the appreciation, the recognition that I, me, self, was somehow, even though I produced and delivered was somehow entitled or deserved.

The expectation and assumption of the expectation is the kernel of the cancer called pride. This is wisdom and this is key.

The good news was the option periods were cancelled, I had to eat more humble pie and was thrown back into the swill with the rest of you.

Jan, even the most introspective person, who most anyone would perceive as a person of virtue, standard or “goodness” is susceptible to becoming ugly.

          • Interesting post, Tom. I’m just following intuition here, but what if that says more about where we get our sense of worth from within society (and as individuals) rather than it saying something about our innate tendencies towards corruption? I’d be much more inclined to agree that we have innate tendencies towards needing a sense of worth, which often results in harmful pursuits of power. I’d be interested to look at how society (I include in that not only the people within it but also the monopoly-like structure in which we exist) defines worth – how able we are to attain that worth – which avenues we go down when we cannot attain it – and what to strive towards in the future. Big questions I’m afraid, and I don’t pretend to hold the answers…

          • We are on the same page. Read the post mine was in response to that held Animal Farm out as a expository on power and corruption. What leaps out at me is the need to perpetuate the species, the need for the masses for the ability to usher in the science. At what point, from a humanist vantage is enough, enough? If mortality was not contingent on the biological and was only subject to a stupid person mishap, if death by disease or other physical malady was taken off the table, how much need for that worth would there be and how much would be a hive, singularity or other form that we would evolve into with life not being challenged while in the meat wrapper. This notion, as supported by Kurzweil, would not require much to sustain. Most if not all of our societal and geopolitical framework would collapse under lack of need. Then what? Would self worth dissipate into the ether? Would individuality be considered vogue or renegade? Being afraid is logical!

          • This is rather random, and only partially related to this, but there is a book, “There will be Dragons” by John Ringo. And it is about a futuristic society, and what would happen along the lines of this post. I don’t know if your interested in Science fiction but it definitely explores your questions…

          • Thanks Holly. I will look into Ringo. In the past I have read Job by Heinlein and The Singularity by Kurzweil.

          • The basic problem i see in this thread is that none of you are honestly looking at yourselves or even getting to KNOW yourselves. I was raised in a home where we KNEW exactly who we were every day of every week of every year. We knew because we were taught to look our own faults and limitations in the eye and either accept them or conquer them. We knew who we were because every day we started over with a clean slate and a new vow to be the very best person we possibly could be. we didn’t make said vow to the world … we made it to ourselves. We didn’t make that vow to ourselves out of a sense of humility or shame … we made it out of a sense of PRIDE in the person we were and PRIDE in the person we wanted to be that night when we laid our heads down to rest. Our vow included a promise to do ONE thing that was decent and good for ONE of GODs creations that day. (the reason I say GODs creations is because I was raised on a cattle ranch and at times my exposure to humans was pretty limited). You all keep talking about books to read and exposes to postulate on … yet none of you bother to talk about the one single thing you have complete control of … yourselves! How can we ever expect to change the world if we dont KNOW ourselves; our limitations; our failings; our own personal GOD given greatness? I know some of you probably think what I am saying is ridiculous or just plain stupid and redneck (esp. since i told you I was raised on a cattle ranch) but the truth is the truth. You can’ expect to change ANYTHING or set the world on fire until you know the person who’s skin you’re living in. Mother theresa was a good example of a person knowing themselves and their limitations and greatness. Winston Churchill was another. Ronald Reagon was another. Norman Schwarzkopf was another. There are literally HUNDREDS of examples of people truely knowing themselves and their abilities that you can read about and study. LEARN THE YOU THAT YOU ARE! PLEASE! Our only hope lies in that! If you don’t know that person you look at in the mirror every day then you will never be able to achieve the greatness that’s inside each and every 1 of you!

          • I’m totally printing that out, Patrick, and putting it on my fridge! Seriously, that inspires me! Words to live by….

          • Amen to that Patrick Reynolds! I have raised my children in the same way because filling their heads full of bullshit every day was never going to help them. Know your faults, use your talents to overcome them and understand your limitations. Life really is that simple! Give up the ego trip and the delusion that life has become, take a big sigh of relief and enjoy the rest of your days being comfortable in your own skin 🙂

          • You mean that ego trip that has us eating billions of animals and their misery? The ego trip that says that all species that are not human are just to be used and abused, killed and suffer because of humans? That one? Look a little deeper and watch the documentary EARTHLINGS on youtube and review yourselves one more time.

          • Well Madravenspeak, we are beef cattle farmers and also own and operate a meat processing plant and butcher shop…..so I guess I wont be agreeing with your views. And you know what….that’s ok with me …. maybe you should read “The vegetarian Myth” and review yourself one more time.

          • Winston Churchill once said in a speech that he didn’t understand the squeamishness some folks have with the use of chemical weapons against the enemies of his particular corrupt, savage empire. Ronnie Reagan (zap) Was a lousy actor, a Cadillac cowboy and a total tool for the corporate elite and the main reason we have no “real” regulation of the corporations, banks or the military. Some Heroes!

          • Oh no, Patrick…that cannot be! You want me to look at myself? No, no and a thousand times no!! It is much easier to blame “them,” because it is “them” that are controlling me, controlling the world, making me spend money, making me a sheep. It is the “elite” that is the root of all evil and therefore I am not responsible. It is “them” I tell you…”them!”

            Good post, by the way

          • Hefailed — Youpassed. They are the root of all evil. Why you say? They are the elite, classified specifically by money. And money is the root of all evil. Greed. Deception. Abuse of Power.

There was no problem until they created the problem. It is only in due time that a population will become aware that the same idealistic and freedom seeking forefathers are quite literally, a thing of the past. The people are no longer being represented. We are sheep to them because they chose to not listen to our voices. When we come together to revolt, we will be as ONE. And they will HEAR OUR VOICE.

I am good. And I am not afraid. But I know the elite are shaking in their boots.

They got sloppy. Someone found a rat. Game over.

[humanity vs. world/govermental elite] – pending.

          • Ronald Reagan? You have got to be fantasizing. He set up the economic system that has channeled the wealth to the few. He was as corrupt and stupid a tool of the elite as you could find. UGH.

          • One more HUMAN review for you: the documentary EARTHLINGS on youtube – and the “best speech you will ever hear” by Yourofsky on Youtube.

Then view the Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth and ALL BEINGS : http://pwccc.wordpress.com/2010/02/07/draft-universal-declaration-of-the-rights-of-mother-earth-2/ and think through the homocentric philosophy of righteousness that you espouse while ignoring the massive destruction of earth and her innocent non-human life that support human life:

          • What you wrote, and wrote perfectly, is true on so many levels! Thank you for sharing this Patrick!

          • Suggested reading; Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451, Orwell’s “1984”, Lord of the Flies, There are other good Books that are pertinent

          • This whole discussion and speech by Mat Damon bears down to one thing only! ONE WORLD ORDER! World Domination by the elite ONLY!!!!

          • We all ready being controlled by the elite for several several years elites have the power they own almost every country bar 3 , our elected leaders are merely puppets or spokesman to a higher body , we just get forced propaganda every day , we buy the latest clothes the new technology basicly keeps us on a sleepy trance blissfully unaware what’s going on around the world or even in our own land

          • good work craig…consuming is what we do best..they want us drunk and busy with minor shit so it is easier for them to control…

          • I agree. But isn’t that our nature as humans? From the beginning of time, we took the easy path, allowed someone else to lead, complained when they didn’t lead well, were too tired or disinterested to stand up and fight for what was right when there was injustice. Occupy Wall Street was lauded as a “revolution”. Seriously? The people that organized that movement or participated, could have used the forum and media coverage for true change, but it never happened. People are still losing their homes to foreclosure because modifying their mortgages are not mandatory for the banks. Injustice is all around and until someone steps up as a champion of the poor and disenfranchised, or groups of people get together to do it, no real change will ever happen. Craig you are right, technology has made us isolated, lazy, unskilled at real communication and negotiation, so it looks bleak. One starting point; we need to start by teaching character education in Kindergarten. Morals, values and compassion can go a long way in the fight.

          • THE “FRAUD” IS THE DIS-“OBEDIENCE” TO “THE CREATOR” and HIS “SON”! “THE BLASPHEMIES”!! And “THE RANK PAGANISM”!!!

          • Ahh, yes Jesus teaches us the best of Civil disobedience. He had nothing good to say about leaders of religions nor politics.

          • Meditation in nature, don’t watch TV, play video games, etc. You will find your inner guide that will give you strength and confidence. It’s not impossible to rise above … the mind is a powerful tool.

          • We’re there. See how difficult it is to run as a third party in the US. Libertarians who advocate personal freedom cannot even have a voice in our political system. You would think an American political party based on Freedom would be popular.

          • “political party based on Freedom” is oxymoron. The goal of each political party is getting more power for itself, or rather its leadership, thus limiting freedom of all others. That’s why we need more than one.

          • We here in South Africa have the very same problem with the exception that we are at this very moment being killed off like flies(if your skin is white only)and we have NO way out of it!Genocide is going on and the world is not interested at all TV stations are ordered NOT to air ANY of this to the world and newspapers are told NOT tpo print !! BUT you can only herd people for a little while then that herd breaks free! All hell breaks loose and it is civil war!!! So yes we have a great deal that we are coping with, with corrupt leaders!!!!

          • Hi Nellie – I’ve just seen this discussion, and that u are from SA – so am I, and I think this is one of the most eloquent/interesting conversations I have seen on FB/internet – ur welcome to be in touch with me – we might be on the same side of the thinking divide, or we might not be 🙂

          • It has been in the making for the last 200 years my friend and the Illuminati KNOWS what they want!!Always have always will!

          • You are aware. This cult of people want all us poor people to “revolt, fight back, take back rights” etc etc… which all leads to Martial Law.

          • Then one will FIGHT for your right to be a human being, not wait like a sheep for the slaughter Carolina! I for one have already suffered under their hands,I am alive BECAUSE i fought back!! They act as if they are sovereign on this planet but they do not know that SOME countries on this planet is waiting to come and put them in their place!!

          • I disagree. People in poverty don’t plan. They survive. And they believe the myth perpetuated by people who would rather not face the causes of poverty as societal and instead contrive some lack of morality that led them to their impoverishment. Maya Angelou said, “When you know better you do better”. This does not lead to Martial law. It leads to people believing they deserve a voice instead of believing that they don’t count. I have learned more from people off the street than from Kierregard, Foucalt, or politicians. I have seen unbelievable poverty. Yet they make it when most of us would be paralyzed by our lack of options. The key is they have to be linked to services that empower them to feel like they have some support and control over their lives. When people feel like they can rise above what must seem like impossible odds they begin to see themselves as valuable. I have a lot of respect for the working poor. Ironically, they have been more giving and welcoming than the middle class civilians that I live around. Of course out of desperation some of them have stolen from me but that is to be expected. At least they steal outright rather than do it the white collar way.

          • He is doing what ALL politicians and Presidents do the speech is being prepared for him…BUT HE delivers it!! Nothing new,I take my hat off to him for doing it in the first place, just shows that one of the ELITE is ACTUALLY partaking in trying to change the world for the better!!!!

          • And I guess Damon,in his mind is part of the elite. There is more common sense in farmers and their wives than many people who think they are elite.

          • Farmers? you mean the ones subsidized to murder billions of farm animals while the Farm Bureaus propose killing all wildlife to kill all tame animals and destroy our beavers and water systems. Those farmers? the ones who have poisoned our food systems because they do not want to till? The ones who are 51% of global climate change cause because slaughterhouse production is 51% of climate change cause? The very farmers who have moved to GMO crops to destroy our health and the health of the land and water systems…
You have got to be ignorant or a farmer. Or both.

          • I gotcha. Farmers are of the Devil. Never thought of that before. How come you call it Climate Change? Why not call it Global Warming like you used to?

          • What this all bears or boils down to is, are you willing to accept this situation believing you are powerless to do anything about it or are you prepared to stand up, speak out and do something. Matt Damon has used his ability and prestige to do something about this continuing concentration of wealth and power into the hands of the few.
These few are able to do what they do because the vast majority of those being dispossessed are believing they are powerless, but we are all able to do something, even if it is just starting a conversation about this situation and seeking out others with whom to more effectively respond. We are all responsible, that is we are all response-able and some of us are more response-able than others. What about you?

          • Right on! Yes, I know I’m betraying my age but I have stepped up. Many groups have organized around some of these issues. Look them up – you won’t hear about them on MTV, national media or Twitter unless you seek them out. Try MoveToAmend.org, 350.org, Robert Reich producer of the film Inequality for All, Bill Moyers, Public Citizen, Common Cause or http://www.alecexposed.org.

          • I’m appalled by this Damon character. He used his prestige to endorse gun control, yet he reads Howard Zinn’s 1970 speech?? Help me out here. What does this mean?

          • It means that most of us are tired of the NRA and the violence perpetrated by the gun nuts – that we are tired of having our wildlife murdered out for the FEW who control our state wildlife agencies in totalitarian control raping out our PUBLIC lands and private lands and destroying our peace. Of course Howard Zinn was against the control of gun nuts perpetrating gun violence on the rest of us and THEIR totalitarian control by violence.

            That is what it means.

          • wow.. it’s clear to me that you are not even on the same planet. This speech has nothing to do with gun control. This speech is about RESISTING TYRANNY! How do you resist???? I can tell you it ISNT going to happen with pencils, keyboards, discussions, protests, nor pitch forks, or shovels. wake the f up

          • after reading a few of your posts it is even clearer to me that you are one of those animal loving folks. That’s great and all, but really, come on. What is more important, human survival or animal survival? If you pick animal, then you should be put out to pasture. Or you could drop all your possessions and go out into the forest and live like an animal. Otherwise… STFU

          • You are so right! Thats exactly what I thought throughout the whole thing. It may be a conspiracy but dont they choose the ones who are acknowledged by the vulgar many -95% of the society- and push the idea, making it popular. Get them all independent by the fancy “western civilization who saved people from feudalism “…. jesus!! And Are you kidding me! Why dont you call it a “western colonization” that made everything better for “west” while absolutely destroying the others’ culture, religion, goods, values, merits, souls everything…by the MEDIA? that you are holding a major role in it which dictates ideas to others? Especially Matt Damon, who is mostly in politically manipulated stories created by Hollywood! I love the guy, I really do and respect his amazing acting skills but it takes more than a reading from a paper. If he was sincere he wouldnt take this position. If he did, he wouldnt take this piece of reading

          • Wnt to know about OUR society?? Not a futuristic dystopian one?? Blood for Oil “Dreaming War” by Gore Vidal

          • Being afraid may be logical, understandable, but not desirable. People are driven. People are driven to create, to destroy, to investigate, to quantify, to build, to dismantle, to celebrate, to decry, to rejoice, to struggle. If you remove the need for some endeavor, there are already many others. How much is enough? This is the question of our age? Enough to realize that we don’t work together only out of necessity for survival but because many can accomplish more than one. Enough to realize that mortality doesn’t have to be feared but rather revered as an inescapable limit to how much. The more that survival is a non-issue, the more important worth is but , i think, the question of how much becomes ever more important.

          • Y’know it’s good to see an elevated standard of discussion.
So I read ur post and you have explained how you yourself got caught up in the ego of chasing success, but is that bad? You haven’t distinguished success from corruption. Your experience? Was it one wherein you were offerred the vision of success along with a caveat of breaking laws, exploiting others, denying masses of people their personal power or stealing money? Cos if not, then….. go for it! It seems nieve to NOT see that there is a jungle out there and that striving to innovate and succeed is neccesary. One doesnt HAVE to see it as stepping on the person below you as you rise. If a buncha folks make fancy shoes and you invent fancy shoes that fly, and thereby become a fortune 500 company, then the shoemakers below you can prosper working in the new ‘flying-shoes’ industry that didn’t used to exist. Capitalism does work somewhat well. Its the corruption we are talking about; is it NECCESARILY a part of capitalism or of a ‘success-based’ society? Is a two party system where we are constantly distracted from seeing how much they are two sides of a same coin while they fleece us of our perosnal power, NECCESARY?
But as for you? I hope you get GREAT success but dont allow it to corrupt you…..

          • I think you may be misinterpreting Kurtweil. Please look deeper. His concept is eugenics clear and simple and goes as far as Artificial intelligence to replace biological human beings.

          • Yes Abi, you have put your finger right on it. It is so much about the sense of self worth. This phenomena of greed that seems to pervade our world today arises out of the cultural program that tells us we are worth what we own, what things we appear to possess, coupled with the program that there is not enough of what we need (and more programming that we really need what in fact we are stimulated to want). It is this endless grasping for more things we are being told we need, for the sake of our self worth or to ensure our well being in an uncertain future, that produces greed and, importantly for the power elite, keeps us all providing the profit they gain from our programmed excessive consumption.
All this will change when we return to earlier cultural norms where we were valued for what we contributed to the well-being of others. Or even more positively when as in a truly loving family or community, we are valued for just being who and what we are.

          • If God did/does not favor the human race, human beings, as a species, wouldn’t amount to puss running out of a pimple on a cockroach’s testicle.

          • Tom Ubl, I did not google you, I don’t know who you are, but I like alot the self reflecting, truth honoring man you write as here, and the “now” tell all I need to know.

          • What is your need to know? My story is just another blimp on the radar in passing that has equally less meaning than the noodling of others. Nothing special just a story of what was, past tense. The likelihood of me ever rising from my health issues are possible, but the probability is stacked heavily against me.

I suspect my adrenals will fail me some day soon and then I will go into adrenal crisis and because those around me will not have a clue to hit me with a bolus dose required to keep the lights on I will go into extremis. You have 6 hours max, then you slip into a coma and die. That is the most probable scenario. I am spent, but it does not mean I don’t keep trying to “deliver” the day.

I really do not know why I was compelled to spend so much time in here. I guess I will know the reason in hindsight that is usually how it goes. I live in a 12 x 12 space the better part of my days now because sound and light are so intense from compromised adrenals. I ran a hard game and paid for it. I hope someone else reads this and puts the brakes on their hard charge and learn early on to stop and smell the roses. Unfortunately, youth knows best.

So what is your need to know?

          • In many ways I understand your health problem perception Tom! I don’t know you, nor do I know what you suffer from but I do know what it is like to die slowly and incredibly painfully and to have given up on any foreseeable future because of my own many health issues!

I let it take me down for a while but now I know that while I’m still alive it must be because I have something to offer. Not usually a believer in fate or destiny other than that which we don’t create for ourselves, however I have nearly died so many times that it has rattled me to think that maybe, just maybe, there is a reason I am still here, alive, aside from dumb luck.

I like to think that just passing on one simple insight to a young person…something that resonates with them and maybe helps them in turbulent times in their future then for me, it will be worth it! Call it ego, crazy or arrogant but it was not something that came easy for me to understand and to me it seems to be true..why is a question that I can not answer for it is not something I can grasp even now. Maybe you are still here because your not finished…you maybe still need to pass on what you have learned Tom! Either way…I’m glad I had the chance to read some of your thoughts and share in this post with you my friend!

            Much Love and respect!

          • Thank you. A great boost that was needed right now. Isn’t it odd when we have our greatest capacity we are all about self and when we have issues that set us down and dent our effectiveness is when I have an overwhelming compulsion to want to serve those less fortunate. So odd and so wrong of me not to have done more when I was cresting. I no one to call what is right or wrong, I get in here and stir the pot with the hope to get people thinking, even if an antithesis, I don’t care. Just have an opinion, get your face out of your phone and let your mind go and ask yourself the difficult questions. I can understand a counterpoint I can’t understand apathy. Thanks for the love I am sure you are in the paths of those who need you, I was!

          • C. M. Phillips, I’m not a young person but I really appreciate your words. Precious. Time does not exist, just a perception in our dimension, so, we only have the NOW, and in the now we are doing our best, to share goodness and love with those who are there to receive them. Thank you, love and light

          • Tom Ubl, I’m glad you spent time here on this page where I arrived by synchronicity. Than you for sharing your precious and personal thoughts. I send you love, light and energy, be well Tom.

          • So the problem, ultimately is the ego. If everyone in the world read and applied the ‘Power Of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle, this problem would be eradicated. Think about it, no ego; no inclination towards the recognition you mention, to see ‘your’ (ego) corporations sign raised higher than everyone else’s, your animal farm better than any one else’s… it’s an addiction that is perceived as normal, and it’s the perception of normality upon that which is insane, yet common, that is our common enemy.

          • Reading Eckhart Tolle or any other teacher will not make one enlightened. The conditioning is deep and from countless lifetimes, any book is not going to dissolve it. That’s why a practice of meditation is required to work with our sub-conscious conditioning. It’s a shame to me that Eckhart Tolle downplays the important part of meditation in his own journey (as I read his book ‘Power of Now’ he does anyhow). It’s also not customary for Buddhist monks to claim enlightenment in public. The Buddha taught that if one claims enlightenment and has not reached the final goal, then this is transgression against his teachings. To make false claims about one’s attainments is a serious thing. I’m not comfortable with Tolle’s claims, clearly he is further along the path than me but if he were fully enlightened I doubt he’d be telling Oprah that.

          • But – it was a lesson. You won’t allow yourself to go there again, correct? Can we not assume the same of others?

          • You can’t assume that others will follow in his footsteps either. Some will go there again and some won’t go there at all.

          • I tend to agree with what you are saying but “susceptible to becoming ugly”, is a lot like saying susceptible to become temporarily insane. The true self would eventually show up… So why worry about it. In order to have a sound judgement, we need to know all the variables at play (past/present/future), which is rarely the case. Especially if large amounts of money is involved. Goodness is a very relative term and have no real meaning without a context to contrast it with. If you had pride, and became humble because your expectations were not met, you never really had any humility. The standards you talk about seem to be of the narcissistic kind, not of the altruistic kind. That was the problem, and the lack of wisdom. They say “intent” is everything in some circles. It sets the frequency of the action in motion, like a ripple

          • Hi Tom – I’ve just happened on this discussion on Facebook, some 2/3 months after it happened, but I love your comments & thinking, and just thought I’d say hello, from South Africa 🙂

          • You’re spot on Jan. I also think Mark S’ initial comment was a suggestion that becoming wholly “united” is actually one of the underpinning ideals of communism… and Animal Farm shows us how that works out.

As to the video, I like Matt Damon alot, but i’m not sure what his message is here? Are we meant to promote riots, crime and disobedience simply because the government uses law as a method to restrain us? Because in countries where “civil disobedience” is high, the death tolls are also higher from general crime, corruption and gang hierarchy, and the wealth is even more poorly distributed. I get that conformity is a bad thing in many ways, but surely it is better than chaos? There must be some middle ground somewhere.

          • This country was founded on civil disobedience and the constitution supports it. Your examples are WAY off. Use your own country’s history.

            Whats not to understand?

            Why don’t you know this.

          • Get off your gentrified, white fear pedestal. Go to Olympia, WA–first Westside where they have Evergreen College, etc. Then go to Eastside Oly. Then continue to articulate the bullshit you are suggesting which is that wealth disparity is greater anywhere but here. Because it isn’t. The United States has the singular greatest chasm in wealth allocation.

Your statement seemed to be advocating for the notion that obedience to the State would lead to less wealth disparity. Was it Mitt Romney or Adolf Hitler that you learned this from?

Anyways, rioting would be infinitely better than this white-washed complacency. Break windows, smash cars, tear down gated communities. Tired of this police state.

          • I think the problem does not lie in obedience or disobedience. It certainly doesn’t help to destroy a bunch of property like a five year old on a temper tantrum. First, the claim is true, there is greater disparity just about anywhere else. In the US, the poor people (welfare reciepients) have on averages 2 tv’s per home and they have cable. In all of the third world, our poor would be the village rich.
The main problem is in how people see the world. If two people have the same education, the same job and income, but one lives with more discipline, saving 15% of his money for retirement. That person DESERVES to have a rich and fulfilling retirement even if the other one is poor. He made good decisions. The only problem with capitalism is that some people don’t participate (and through giant power structures like governments and to some degree corporations victimize individuals).
I can prove my assertion by asking you to tell me what would happen if you took all the money and all the stuff away from everyone and distributed it perfectly equally…what would happen after say 20 years pass? I would argue that we would be on the fast track to a chasm between the rich and the poor again. It has to do with delaying gratificationa nd personal pleasure and planning the future you want. Anyone can do it, including anyone from Eastside Olympia. You just have to realize that where you start has no relation to where you finish, and overcome whatever obstacle is in front of you.
There has never been so much free medical care, free tuition, public assistance. I say with conviction that ANYONE who has a strong desire to get ahead in life (and works really freaking hard for it) can do just that. There are struggles. There are trials. There will be problems. If a person wants it bad enough, they can get it. Period.

          • I agree the US may not show the mass poverty of other nations, but the depravity still exists in one form or another; the feelings of desperation are just that, despite if someone may have it worse. And I can tell you from experience it is not a negligible state. And your theory that those ‘in the know’- as in the people fortunate enough to have the conditioning to persevere and remain diligent in their savings and vision for the future, this is likely more a product of upbringing and personality type than a choice. If it is a choice, it’s not a clear one. When you are down, boundaries and the vision become clouded. If you have children, passion overwhelms you to make them happy, sometimes the everyday poverty becomes so desperate. We drink, spend money on things we shouldn’t. It isn’t such a neat package for some, it comes with the human condition. And the yes, some “work hard for it” and get it, but that is rare from what I have seen.

          • wow, typical white man bs. you really drank the kool aid didn’t you? Why do you even bother reading stuff like this when you obviously don’t have a clue how reality for anyone other than the self-righteous white man lives? Sure, anyone can what they want if they are willing to break laws, have no morals like the psychopaths who become CEOs.

Really, quoting that tired old cliche about how redistributing wealth would all go back to the same rich/poor distribution is such crap. get an original thought once in awhile.

          • race card lol, go figure. This is America where anyone can excel if they pull their head out of their ass and the govt gets out of their way. Now you wont excel if your idea of success is working Mcdonalds waiting for some wealth redistribution. so take it how you want but each of us is responsible for ourselves its on you to succeed

          • that’s bs William maybe at one time but not anymore most jobs don’t pay enough to even begin ,,,my daughter has 2 degrees and cant find a job

          • There is always a way, it may not be instant but eventually if you continue to try it can happen. I have been in that position as well, headed back to school and trying again.

          • William, that is the line we’ve been fed despite a lack of evidence. Not everyone can or will make it. Some won’t try and others will try and fail. The real issue is whether our culture believes in providing the most level playing field it can. Priviledge in this country begets priviledge and some can simply stand still and receive respect and wealth while another can work everyday and get neither, simply because of our entitlement mentality surrounding priviledge.

          • We wont argue entitlement because there certainly is that. But if you give up just because you arent one of the entitled then you wont be the next Steve Jobs, Henry Ford, etc etc. Hell even the person that made sham wow had an idea and ran with it. Just because you aren’t entitled doesn’t mean you don’t have a playing field at all. Small business makes up the majority of jobs in this country. Why? because they have a chance and take it. Sure some will fail and they will try again and again. Others find a niche. However the 51% will be right where they are when they die still crying about it not being fair and denigrating those that want to improve themselves. Or not taking a job because it’s beneath them or doesnt pay what they think is fair. In the end you only get out of life what you put into it, if that means I work 2 jobs so my children can succeed then I have been a success. Besides that privilege you talk about makes up a Very small percentage of America <2%

          • You are making huge assumptions about broad populations of people. Have you ever tried walking through town and talking to as many people as you can? Even if you did this your entire life you wouldn’t have talked to enough people to apply your views globally. Talking to people that you wouldn’t usually talk to is a good way to put things in perspective and realise the incredible variety of people.

          • John … notice that William said government gets out of the way. The government has been crippling the employment and sales sector for DECADES with rules and sanctions and laws and crap like that. YOU do realize that if the government hadn’t imposed a minimum wage law back in the day that low payed workers now would be making a wage of somewhere in the mid teens now don’t you? The minimum wage wasn’t created to protect the worker … it was created to protect the corporations. By setting a bench mark for low skill jobs … like burger flipping … they in essence told the American worker that’s all he deserved in pay, and told the corporations that’s all they needed to pay. Had the government let capitalism run it’s course employers would have been forced to bid on workers through wage negotiations. Yes … an employment application is in essence a wage negotiation. People piss and moan constantly about wanting government to step in and solve the jobs problem … government isn’t the solution … they are the impediment! Free market capitalism is the solution. An economy based on capitalism is vibrant, strong and rich in it’s abilities and power to produce. An example of this is America during WWII … This country produced more machinery in less time than ALL other countries combined. And the population that stayed at home to help produce these goods were payed a VERY good wage in compensation for their extreme efforts. Women employees in factories were making somewhat equivalent sums to most men of that time. The men were making better wages due to the fact that most of the work was hard physical labor and the women for the most part couldn’t keep up. (I know this because BOTH my grandmothers were factory workers during WWII and they BOTH said the same things to me when I used to talk to them about their younger years).

          • “An economy based on capitalism is vibrant, strong and rich in it’s abilities and power to produce.”

There it is again, societal organization by economic theory as opposed to political theory. I hold that the political values of democratic equality be the primary way to order society. Every citizen, regardless of wealth, will get a minimum safety net (food, shelter, education, jobs). A socialist society puts people ahead of concepts of productivity and efficiency. We are a society of people and we should treat each other as people – not commodities. Support labor-ism, screw capital-ism.

          • Race card label = white man’s way of dismissing truth. btw, I’m white. I know better than to falsely believe white men do not have an attitude of “entitlement” more than anyone else. “Work hard and you’ll succeed” ha. crap. If you believe people are “waiting for wealth distribution” you must like in an ivery tower, certainly not in the real world. 3/4 of people on food stamps WORK and don’t make enough to BUY FOOD.
so sick and tired of those who “have” blaming those who don’t for the way this society is rigged. If you’re the beneficiary of the system, then shut up when those who aren’t get screwed and complain. deal with it.

          • you sound too bitter, race card is the race card. If you throw race out there and dont throw out facts it means you have no argument but race. Truth is truth

          • No it just means one of their arguments is race and doesn’t invalidate any of their other points. Hitler had many valid points but he also had many more invalid ones. Many of Hitlers good ideas revolutionized the world and are still used in modern day.

          • The problem with your opinion is that the children of poor families do not get the same educational advantages as the kids from wealthier families. Its just not the schools but the home life where lack of heat, food, pencils, paper, tutors, etc. are factors that make it so that the lower classes produce more relative lower class citizens based upon previous history. Why should somebody’s child go to Harvard/Yale while a poor child only have opportunities/resources for high school? The problem with the capitalist system is that each new generation is held to their parent’s social/educational/economic strata where upward mobility is possible but is not the normal case. Socialism can do a better job at making sure that the starting points for individuals are more equal.

          • You are spot on Design,BUT…. This is NOT about race at all it is about the RICH and the POOR!!No one have to be poor if the politicians keep their word and the elite stop getting preference when it comes to making money!!They should give the small man black, white ,asian, chinese I don’t care WHO they are an equil CHANCE in making their efforts to cope with poverty WORK! But they won,t,that is not the reason they became politicians and Presidents in the first place it was about THEMSELVES and using the masses to get where they want to go!!!!

          • The chance to go to an Ivy League school because we didn’t grow up privileged. The chance to get subsidies from the government because my our company didn’t make over a $billion this year. Generations of people oppressed due to the color of their skin, religion or sexual orientation. I’m not taking a stand for the re-distribution of wealth. We live in a country where WE are SUPPOSED to equal. Did you know that when our government was formed it was a civic duty for all Americans to serve in that government. You now have to have a law degree to even enter the current form of federal service. It is also supposed to be a privilege to serve NOT A CAREER. Long term Senatorial and Congressional service begets the corruption WE are all experiencing. A collusion of law makers being financed by the rich and powerful are beholden to their masters. When big banks are writing their own regulatory laws, they aren’t going to write them to hinder their fraud. Who would you side with a lobbyist lining your pockets with gold or your constituents trying to block the lobbyists cause? Most of our reps. take the money and run. WE are ALL suffering those consequences. The upper middle class will quickly become lower middle, and so on until we are ALL forced to live at the feet of these corporations and to big to fail financial institutions.

          • The problem, Mitchell, is that the “punishment” of poverty is experienced by many that have either not made a wrong decision or have made the same errors as others who have not ended up poor. And for those that “deserve it,” the effects can become a hole overly diificult to climb out of regardless of any future good decisions. And as far as race and poverty and opportunity, being poor is bad enough, add in being black or hispanic and the numbers are worse. But poverty in general needs to be addressed because it brings all of humanity down. Also, do you think a child should have diminished odds of success because his/her parents made poor choices? If you do, then please see the definition of “privilege” and the negative effects it has on American citizens.

          • To answer that question you must ask yourself what chances you did get then consider every possible chance you didn’t get. Not a single person will have more chances than lack of chances but some will have more than others.

          • No Mitchell , I USED to be poor I am not poor anymore! I got myself 2 jobs, peeling potatoes in a Portugese chips shop(there were no other jobs available at the time)which I did from:)07:00 to17:00 and then went home to feed my kids then right away to a cinema where I ushered seats until midnight!!!I kept this up for the longest time while looking and waiting for a job suitable to my qualification!! It pitched a year later and I still kept the ushering job and saved like a mad dog!!! Hence when I say one does NOT have to be poor or STAY poor! The politicians promised that they will create jobs when we vote them in and they did NOT! I had to do it for myself!!!!I had to walk 28Km per day because I did NOT have a car!Hence ,people do NOT have to STAY poor!!!!

          • I believe in part of what you say, but not all. If we evenly redistributed the wealth, I believe it would eventually lead to the same way it is now and people would cry again that life is unfair. I am poor as dirt, as is my entire family. I still believe that the rich will become rich again. It is true that the poor people in the United States make more money then many people in other countries but they are not poor just because they bought objects with it, or did not save for their future. The gap is caused by more then just that. Those with money have different tax breaks, get differential treatment in many ways. And not only is it because they have money but because they have the KNOW HOW. They understand how the laws can work in their favor. In fact, there are many laws that are incredibly bias in this area. But I do also believe that a person from a poor family can become rich. They just have to work a bit harder.

          • I agree but probably because I am older & less functional. But while we do have a larger divide between the rich & poor in the U.S., and there are enormous problems to deal with here, our poor are rich by almost anyone else’s standards. I know this because I am one of the poor, yet I have most everything I need most all of the time. I’m not making any money, being disabled. I’m not selling anything valuable, never having had any. But I get medical attention when I ask for it & food. I can get a ride if I need it. And there are other poverty perks – that I paid for when I was working. Or did I pay for my grandmother? ——- Too many people DON’T want to rock the boat or stick their necks out or tell the truth of things, but there are also too many people now loaded & ready to pull the trigger on anyone that disagrees with them. Neither person is being very damn patriotic. I think it’s patriotic to help your neighbor, to vote, to be voted for, to suggest remedies (loudly), to blow the whistle on thieves, to recycle, to give blood, to be a good person, to protest (loudly), etc. To ‘fix’ the government, one bit at a time, one problem at a time, one agency at a time, how about working for it! And get the old geezers out of the Senate who have been doing the same stupid things the same stupid way for decades! It’s amazing how many people gripe & moan, and then vote the same dummies right back in. You keep doing what you’re doing & you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.

          • If you lived in other first world countries you would not have to worry about the cost of healthcare, education nor post secondary education. You would have a strong social safety net. Then you would be getting on with living a good life with less poverty and crime. You would not be having this discussion.

          • “There has never been so much free medical care, free tuition, public assistance.”
Actually there has never been so little government assistance for the needy and such great population of needy. You have to remember that increasing the worlds net GDP decreases the worth of each dollar. More money is being spent on the needy but the worth of that money is the least it has been in recent history. More doesn’t necessitate any improvement it’s manipulation through interest rates and money-printing. Your points do not apply to many people as it is rare to find any two people with the same education, job and income. But even when you do you will find they live in the same wealth bracket. A teacher or mechanic is never going to become a millionaire through their occupation alone. Even if they move up to management or buy their own warehouse/school they immediately become a part of a different wealth bracket and you would be then comparing them to people who the even fewer people who have also moved up to that bracket.

It would take bounds longer than 20 years for equal wealth to become as disproportionate as it is today. It is not the right move nor the move many others including myself are advocating. We need the removal of debt/credit and the return wealth to its original form of physical currency. Or possibly even the removal of money altogether and the development of a more complex barter system. Determinism is a dying dogma as though determination is necessary for survival it will never guarantee wealth. In this sense you do not deserve to have everything or nothing, you simply do not deserve. Deserving is a paradoxical belief that stems from envy and pride. To see ourselves as owners of anything or anyone but ourselves is egocentric. We are born into this universe from the energy of the sun and fertility of the earth yet claim to own parts of them throughout our brief existence. In this sense it is insanity to see ourselves as deserving when we have all been provided for. To fight over the ownership of earth is like bacteria fighting over the functioning of humans. We exist for a time inconceivable to bacteria just like the earths existence to us.

          • I use to believe the same thing. I pulled myself out of a poverty ridden family, worked two jobs putting myself through college. Did all the things I was told would make me a success in this country, but they leave out one thing……. illness. Before I turned 50 I had to stop working due to autoimmune disorder. Lost everything, including health care since you have to wait two yrs after getting SSDI to qualify for medicare and my SSDI was just enough to put me above any type of assistance yet not enough to really live on. Also, the earliest your first SS check comes is 5 months, that eats up all your savings.
I spent years as an ER nurse and had seen how in one moment a persons life can change from an active productive one to disabled. But never really knew the reality of it until it happened to me. One heart attack, stroke, car accident, or like my son in law cancer at age 32 will rip all those things you have built up right out of your hands. Bank accounts, IRAs, lose your home, car, all of it gone. Then be regulated to living on a small portion of what your salary use to be.
So your belief system is flawed, the American Dream can suddenly turn into the American Nightmare regardless of how well you follow the rules.
No one has said one word of taking away others things and distributed it to others, that is not socialism. What most of us want is real socialism, where everyone starts with decent housing, healthy food, medical care, and good education through college. From there every one has the real chance for a Dream to come true. If disease hits at least you are not regulated to substandard housing, medical care, only afford unhealthy foods, and your child(ren) will still have chance for college vs staying home to care for you because medicare nor medicaid no longer pays for full time care.

          • Txannie,
I can certainly see your position, and I do appreciate you telling me that my belief system is flawed. After reading your response and reflecting for a few minutes, I must still be flawed because neither do I take anything back nor do I believe that any socialism, including the utopian one you suggest is either possible to maintain or advantageous.
The socialist countries in Europe that provide healthcare and housing also have a remarkeably higher employment rate (people understand that the system fails without 80%+ people working), have to grapple with how much value an elderly or disabled person’s life still has before spending money on their further care, and surprisingly, they have far fewer freeloaders than we currently have here. Understand I am not talking about the infirmed, but people who are actively avoiding work they are capable of because it is not better for them to work the jobs they could get (at least so they think).
I applaud any person who has overcome generational poverty to become anything of significance. That said, every person should be required to take a class in high school about what social tools are available for maintaining security in one’s standard of living if the awful happens. If someone had educated you about the cheapness and value of long term disability insurance, you would be receiving your full income now and for the rest of your life. It is too late, I understand, but if people did what they needed to do to take care of themselves, it would not be the government’s job to take care of them. I know it sounds cold and unfeeling, but you should understand that there is not a better feeling than knowing that you are fully able to withstand what life may throw at you. It is good to be self-sufficient.
To specifically address the Medicare/Medicaid thing; Medicare is a right, an entitlement. We pay for it to be there for us later. It has withstood a ridiculous amount of fraud and waste, and would be strong if not for politicians constantly robbing it. Obama is by far the worst offender. He is stealing 50 Billion to fund Affordable Care, which is the total opposite of its name! Medicaid should simply go away. It is the worst side of Socialism. Take money from people who pay and give it to people who can’t (spare me the you don’t love people speech. I believe, like Jesus that teaching a person to fish is of infinitely more value than giving them fish).
In summary, your situation is truly unfortunate. It is more unfortunate that you were not shown how to keep from ending up in it than that there is not more help for you. I believe that my American Dream is also turning into an American Nightmare because I get to keep only about 45% of the income I make. The rest is stolen from me by social programs I didn’t vote for, don’t believe in, don’t want, and don’t need.
If it is wrong to believe that I deserve something the moment I am able to pay for it, and not one second sooner, than I concede that I am wrong. Anything that is given or awarded without paying for it is through grace (a strong and good Christian principle), but in my opinion nobody can make the argument that grace is deserved or should be awarded through legal decree.
I do wish you the best of luck, and I hope that you can find something productive to do. I understand that autoimmune disorders limit your exposure to people or public places, but certainly you are not an invalid. You can improve your situation, and if you aren’t willing to, nobody else should be forced to. It is my opinion, and is not wrong, just as your opinion is not wrong.

          • Well, I just hope you are able to maintain your flawed thinking. The reason I lost my long term disability is once symptoms became to obvious it could no longer be hidden I did a stupid thing and instead of applying for SSDI right then, I left the hospital I worked at losing my ltd, to continue to work for a little longer. I grew up in the era of if you don’t work your a bum mentality. And since you have no clue as to the autoimmune disease I have your statement of “improving my situation” is just ignorant. I was basically forced onto SSDI by my neurologist and employer. My father died at 45 from our autoimmune disease, but today medicines and treatments (some I can not take due to high cost and medicare does not pay) I am already long past his life expectancy and could remain many more years before dependent on equipment for breathing and eating. So if you count on LTD along with SSDI, keep in mind it really depends on how the economy goes and how long you live after diagnosis. If not for my kids and grand kids I would stop all treatment today. Or at least move overseas as many of my relatives and friends want me to so I could have better living conditions and medical care.
I have too many relatives and friends who live in those countries who you claim have higher unemployment then we do and know it is not true. My cousin has been an English professor in Kanazawa-shi, Ishikawa, Japan over 25 yrs, health care free, no utilities to pay, and both daughters free college; yes he says he pays more in taxes but overall has far more disposable income then if was working here in US. They have a very low unemployment rate compared to ours, with the exception of possible Tokyo. My daughters sister in laws family live in Germany, they visit yearly and again the perception we are given here is not the reality. When WalMart decided to move into the German market they were told they would have to abide by state union rules, pay is triple what it is here, 3-6 wks pd vacation, pd sick days, they of course have socialized medicine so that offsets some the workers there are living well and WalMart is still making a huge profit. They also do not have a huge unemployment rate, very strong national union laws. I could go on and tell about friends who left US to work in Belgium, Denmark, and Italy. But would just be repeating same things. Yes, every country has unemployment, there is not one in the world who has enough work for everyone. But how we measure unemployment and they do is very different, also how those who are unemployed are treated is far better yet they still fight for jobs disproving the idea that people who receive decent living without working prefer that to a job. Also not one of those nations base their decisions on the worth of elderly or disabled when it comes to health care, they actually have longer life expectancy then we do since population with health care get treatment before something turns fatal or long lasting. Elective surgeries and treatments esp cosmetic are low on list but nothing to do with health or life. So they do not grapple with the cost. Unlike here where if medicare does not approve a life saving treatment, or even (as in my case one that would increase quality of life) then we don’t get it. We are not worth much in this country.
As for Social Security being used by the government that is another lie which I have proof. In fact that statement you would not believe the amount those of us who have worked over 30 yrs have in (and this is straight from a SS document I has to sign) “Trust fund amount paid by employee ‘gives amount’, employer ‘gives amount’, and interest accrued ‘amount’ then total amount in trust fund is (mine was high six figures). The amount I am paid divided into the total I would have to live to be 184 yrs old to use it up and that is if it is not still accruing interest. .
Medicare is what is screwed up, I began working less then 10 yrs after it began, almost 40 yrs paid ‘premiums’ out of my income every month though never could use, still pay premiums which is increased almost every year, plus a out of pocket amount at beginning of year.
Back to my Long term disability which was provided by the hospital I worked at, it would have paid the difference between my SSDI up to 80% of my base salary which today, yes would be more but after ten years would still be difficult. Problem is neither of those give any real cost of living increases so eventually anyone even with both will feel the effects of a fixed income with a rising cost of living. Just depends on how long you live. Say those with MS who can live 30 yrs or more, or spinal cord injuries at upper Cervical areas, Parkinson’s, etc…….. Of course if you are still wealthy enough after the initial money drain, you could afford equipment or like Micheal Fox special treatments not covered by insurance to give you a little off and on working time.
One of the great things about the ACA is people such as you and all others will not have to live without insurance for that minimum of 2 yrs like all of us before you or a family member. Also, my youngest daughter still has coverage under fathers union plan until she is 26 for free. Though he died when she was just 5 months old, she still gets benefits from his union job, a couple hundred a month income plus the insurance. He had probably the only union job in Texas and was a great help during the kids growing up. We do not have medicaid any longer here except for disabled children. Even those who do not income qualify for ACA and should receive medicaid can not.
I really want people to understand what really happens if an illness or trauma leaves them disabled. Very few get qualified first time, usually third or more applications so be sure you have enough saved to pay all bills, food, medical care, etc….. for well over a year with a good amount left over to help through the years. There is a short list of automatic disability approvals for certain diseases such as mine, but most will be have a long wait and several disapproval. It is not as easy to get as many think. You will not (at least in TX where we have no state assistance) qualify for food stamps, or any other help. Unearned income disqualifies you on the federal level.

Did you have relatives living before medicare or medicaid? I took care of my g grandmother when I was 6 yrs old, entire summer until she passed away with liver cancer, alone all day on a farm 30 minutes from closet town and to far to walk to nearest neighbor. Good thing is we got very close, bad is I accidentally broke her leg and arm moving her onto the beside toilet. Both grandparents worked off the farm, to old to farm but needed income, my mother worked two jobs during years when women were very limited in employment. My father had left after my younger sister died in an accident on the farm when we were toddlers. Neither of my grandparents retired until 75 yrs old because that gave them the number of yrs to have social security and finally medicare. My parents were both born before SS, as of course was grandparents and g grandparents. And now here we are back where while we have medicare and medicaid we will have to have our children care for us and that has nothing to do with any president, but congress since president can not pass any bills. And it happened before last two elections.
And as a Christian find nothing Christian about any of this. None of His teachings align with not providing for the children, widows, elderly, nor any age. Maybe need to review Matthew and the judgement of Christians.

          • Dylan…chill, just wait, watch and absorb as much knowledge as you can!

Right now is possibly the last time, our last chance at a peaceful and meaningful Revolution! If we fail then chaos will inevitably ensue however if we fail the violent insurrection then humanity will be thrown into such oppression and Hell that it will make anything in human history before it look like a beautiful dream in comparison!

I am just as angry and tired of this world my friend but the masses are not ready…WE are not ready unfortunately, so if we don’t work on this correctly and do it the right way, rushing into a battle most people won’t understand will ensure that the whole thing will fall around us! We have allot of work to do and enlightening the masses is essential to making this all possible!

          • Agreed. We aren’t ready, because everything we see around us, good and bad, is a mirror of our inner selves as a species. WE are not perfect on the inside, so the physical world we create and live in, will have the same flaws at every level. If we want to see any lasting change, we need to start by changing ourselves from the inside out. Be kinder, aim to understand instead of judging, know that what you hate about the world is most likely present in you, etc.

I noticed that I became a much more compassionate and caring person, once I stopped thinking in terms of “what’s in it for me?” and more like “what can I offer others? How can I make other people’s life better?”… and the more you help others, the more other people help you, and the more they will be inspired to do the same to everyone else.

We live in a world that was created by the ego: competition, individuality, shiny things… and we need to move on to a world of selflessness: recognize each other as ONE/whatever we do will affect other people, care for the planet because it’s our only home, etc.

It’s actually a pretty exciting time to be alive 🙂

          • There was a movie about this that ACTUALLY inspired people to do just that! I think it was called”Give it forward”!

          • We may have the highest GDP, but we are in the top 10 of countries with the highest wealth inequality. THere are 27 countries ahead of us for a healthier middle class. So, I ask why? Why do our corporations make so much more? Could it be because they get away with murder? Could it be because the leading corporations barely pay their corp taxes after their accountants use every loop hole? Instead of being proud of the wealth and consumerism, perhaps we should ask ourselves why do American companies do so well while more people are reaching closer to poverty?

          • Why do our poor have cell phones and big screen tvs? cable tv? internet? they may not be able to pay for food but i bet they have their beer, cigarettes and phone. We can;t call it poverty if you want to compare us to other nations.

          • I can see that there are problems. However, lets look at some simple facts. There are several organisations that rank Social Mobility and Prosperity by country, that is, the ability for an individual to better their position in life through education, welfare, and income; no matter their starting position. The US consistently ranks in the top 5. That means that through hard work and dedication, so long as that work is applied toward constructive ends, ANYONE can better their station in life. To argue otherwise is bitter, cynical, and/or short-sighted.
What if we did redistribute all the wealth in America so that everybody had the exact same net worth? Lets look at a real world example: China. Some decades ago, almost all the wealth in China was redistributed in their People’s Revolution. Yes, there were a few corrupt party members that kept more than their share, but even after a policy of maintaining an equal standing amongst all their citizens, today they have almost as wide a wealth disparity as we do. A massive lower class, a growing middle class, and a few super rich people at the top. The same thing would happen here in the States if we attempted the same thing, just much more quickly because we don’t pretend that everyone deserves to be equal.

          • Isn’t anyone else seeing the knock out game, the rebel rousing by Alex Jones and the rest for what it is? If AJ was so true why doe she pay taxes into a corrupt system. All that stand and rally to his hype are all so easily identified. Anything to incite division anything to move martial law that much closer.

          • im sorry im gna hve to correct you on one thing there, when u said ” Because in countries where “civil disobedience” is high, the death
tolls are also higher from general crime, corruption and gang hierarchy,
and the wealth is even more poorly distributed” no there is no other country on earth with wealth as unevenly distributed as the USA, if u feel differently id be happy to go and source the data and come back with it.

          • Try living in Cuba where the Castro Dynasty rules, then the Nomenklatura (made up of party officials and Armed forces Generals) then the rest of the people who have gone from a prosperous nation 50 years ago to a subservient way of life living like animals and under terror and wait then there come the Cuban Blacks whom the Castro consider a sub class and enjoys incarcerating.
I suggest you travel, we might not live in the perfect place but in the whole world we have the best system. Everything I have heard as comp[laints is straight out of the progressive handbook and the only ones who would believe that would be the low information Kool Aid drinkers.

          • You actually have no idea what Cuba was like 50 years ago do you? Prosperous? The majority of Cubans were dirt poor. Working on sugar and tobacco plantations owned by wealthy landowners who were either related to, or friends of, the Dictator, Batista. The nation was prosperous because of money poured into it from U.S. companies investing in resorts, hotels, and casinos in Havana. Batista and his henchmen got rich from kickbacks paid by these companies to them. Cuba became a great place for mobsters to run when they got in trouble in the U.S. (no extradition) and many of the hotels and casinos were owned by the mob. Tell me, if Cuba was such a prosperous paradise for the average Cuban, WHy did the people back Castro over Batista and his cronies?

          • I do have quite an idea, I was born there, you on the other hand serve as a mouthpiece of communist, a Castro apologist. I suggest you acquaint yourself with UN data and learn what Cuba was like before repeating leftist propaganda. People like you give intelligence a bad name.
Next you are going to tell me I can keep my health plan and my insurance, a delusional throll.

          • Reading the conversation between you too I rest my case, humans CANNOT stand together on ANYTHING whatsoever! That is also the reason why you are not worth saving!! I am an Alien!!!!

          • Musecal, don’t listen to these idiots who responded to you. First off, this video clip is from a series where different famous people read the words of Howard Zinn (see under the video it says “For more voices reading Howard Zinn, click here” . I believe what Matt Damon is reading here is from Zinn’s book The Zinn Reader. The passage is not saying that we need civil disobedience, but rather it points out the dangers of civil obedience (going along with everything and not questioning anything). Mark S’s comment is a reference to the book Animal Farm.

          • I believe your “idiots” attribution misplaced. Musecal’s inability to digest the source and intention of the piece – clearly and obviously available prior to watching Mr. Damon – as qualifying so much more as”…a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

          • I have no idea what you just said, but musecal responded and said he/she hasn’t really read the source material. Doesn’t mean he/she doesn’t have the ability to digest it.

          • Haha thanks for both the info and the support ebg 😉 I’m not trying to spout some kind of rhetoric here, (unlike virtually every other reply here..) I was just musing aloud!
I don’t believe there was anything particularly wrong about what I said however- but I totally agree with people’s right to disagree with me.
I come from a military background, so I guess I see order as a sensible and effective way of approaching the world, and I feel I need to mention that obedience is not always the wrong thing to do. That isn’t to say it always is. In many cases (Nazi Germany, North Korea, and many many more examples) unquestioning obedience has been devastating. But that doesn’t mean it has never worked or cannot work. Did the Romans not found much of civilised Europe?

But then what do I know? I clearly haven’t read much of the source material and came here (as many others have) from social media sites.

I’m also not American, sorry folks. But it does tickle me to see people from america acting like they have it so tough and are constantly oppressed by the state. Do some Travelling, and when you find Utopia, send me an email- i’d love to know where it is (and if there is any form of government there!?) 😉

          • it isnt that we feel we have it so tough, however given our ideals of freedom we are feeling the weight of oppression. Our idea of Oppression may be different from your view of the rest of the world, but that is why we are Americans. We have a higher standard

          • If one has no order there is chaos! It is as simple as that but the law makers, the ones that are supposed to institute order have lost their calling through greed! Money talks and bullshit walks!! As simple as that!!

          • Nellie … I HIGHLY disagree with your statement. And I can offer proof of order within chaos for you. The American west during the 1800s. VERY little organized law. VERY little control structure, VERY little order … yet a low rate of violent crime then than now … on a per-capita basis I might add. The reason being … RESPECT. RESPECT in 2 forms … 1. people were naturally more respectful then than now. 2. ya just gotta respect a guy that is carrying a gun and is MORE than willing to turn your head into a canoe if you don’t show him, his family and his property the respect they are due! Another example or order within chaos … American Indian tribes of that same era … there were no laws. There were no policing forces. There was simply love and respect for each and every member of your tribe FROM each and every member of your tribe. One of our most severe down-fallings has been the loss of mutual respect. Through respect we learn civil discourse. Through respect we learn how to properly treat not only others but also others family and property!

          • I stand corrected Patrick! I was not thinking about the past I was actually thinking and living in the here and now! Yes you are 100% correct,it is the ONE most valuable thing the human race has lost and that is RESPECT one another,RESPECT their way of life,RESPECT their efforts…….In our corrupt world today we do not even RESPECT life anymore! It had to have a beginning somewhere and history has taught us that we become what our leaders make us,pushing us into ONE direction like sheep for their OWN gain. Our planet is totally (fucked)it is ruled by the ELITE for the ELITE! Do you think their give a shit for the man on the street? Noooooooooo…I have also always held only the highest regard for especially the red Indian of the Americas I take my hat off to these people, that they are even still around any more is in itself a miracle!! They were deprived and stripped of EVERYTHING and hearded like animals onto resevations with NOTHING on it! through the lack of RESPECT!!!!

          • While I enjoyed your post, I must disagree with what you said about the
Native Americans and the 1800’s. There were laws and treaties that
threatened them. the Dass Act, The Reservation Act, and especially the
Cherokee’s actions against their own people when a group of elite
Cherokee got together and signed away the lands owned by the Cherokee in
Georgia. The eventual Trail of Tears was not order out of respect, the
Americans came and forced the Cherokee out of their homes with only the
belongings on their backs. To say that the order in the face of chaos
was due to respect was in my opinion false according to the evidence I
have studied. “We Shall Remain: Trail of Tears” by PBS was a good
documentary highlighting what really happened. “Trail of Tears: The Rise
and Fall of the Cherokee Nation,” is a book I found informative about
the topic of Native American sufferings.

          • No I guess we Americans don’t have it too bad. But why wait til we do to do anything when we see or situation going the wrong direction. Also I feel for other countries we have military stationed in. Our Government has no GOOD reason to send troops to other countries. I saw a post the other day that was talking about how bad the war in Iraq and Afghanistan are because we have lost a few thousand troops. No one mentioned the 100,000 + people that were killed on the other side. I support our troops because they are there to protect our freedoms and I don’t blame most of them for going where they are told since most of them probably believe what the government is telling them. I do not support the troops that just sign up because they look at it as a career opportunity or a way to pay for college. That is a sick way to make money.

          • its not that the people have it so tough its that the amount of idiots we have is dangerous. i say this because we have the means to act out such tragedies on a large scale not only to us but other countries. we are constantly bombarded with propaganda in the media and wherever it has an outlet. so its like even if you extensively read up on something you still don’t know for sure if its true or if its government spouted misdirection. also we have 104 nuclear reactors and as if thats not enough- we have fema camps strategically placed next to train and bus stations ready for martial law at any time. all the govt would have to do is release some new bio weapon, say its an epidemic and start rounding people up from their homes. honestly i could see most people going willingly which is sad. all america would need to go to war with canada is oprah winfrey to say its about damn time etc etc etc

          • RE: Middle Ground somewhere.

Why, yes, there is. Zinn’s statement identifies and describes a number of attributes as major features of that landscape. If you missed that, I suggest you listen again. Maybe take notes, pausing the video so you don’t miss anything more.

You see, Zinn said nothing about riots. The only aspect of destructive behavior he addressed was that demonstrated by governments and those citizens willingly obliging. If anything was stated or implied in Zinns words, it is that we must not cooperate with violence among us and over our borders.

Which bring us to the question – are you or are you not one of those living in TV Land of reality shows and mainstream news and media? Are you one of those who do not think? You placed inference – imputed – potentials of a call to violence that exist no where in Zinn’s statements. So take care before you answer. The veracity of your claim will be self evident.

          • Red herring for Thanksgiving? No one said anything about riots. But by all means, be a good boy. Leave it to the US military to bring the blessings of chaos to other countries. Don’t make too big a fuss about helping to pay for it. Yes, be an accomplice to mass slaughter because the joys of good order should not be compromised by disobedience.

And leave chaos in America to the corporations and their harem in DC. Help them pay for offshoring jobs. Militarizing domestic police forces. Protecting Big Brother. Protecting Blankfein from prosecution or a public lynching. Don’t get rough with predatory insurance companies that leave children to die. Support by inaction the corporate destruction of your kid’s environment so we can enjoy collective misery an death on a truly vast scale for the rest of human history.
We had to castrate our dear pit bull. He was just so aggressive with pigs. But to this day he still licks his sack. He dreams of growing a new pair.

          • carl 56!! I take my hat off to you, spoken like a champ! I could not have put it better myself and I am not even American I am sitting at my PC in the heart of South Africa reading your comment and feeling GOOD1 God,there is ONE who have a brain I say to myself!!!!!!!

          • Martin Luther King, Ghandi, many others Who’s Names We(the People) will never ever know, since they were buried in some non-descript hole or Jungle of the World. These People understood, that there comes a Time, when to Honor Civic Duty, We(the People) must commit Civil Disobedience. But, Matt Damon’s
Speech, which is merely a read of the pretty much Communist, Howard Zinn, will lead to the Tyranny of the Proletariat. It will lead to same Repression, but, there will be a different Master. I suggest you All study the outcome of the French Revolution, Pol Pot’s Cambodia, Moa’s China, etc. Oh yes and the Socialist Movement that was Nazism.

          • How do you prevent it? The first generation of people who acquire some power or wealth are generally grounded in their original roots. However, as a family gains power, the members, generation after generation gradually loose touch with the rest of humanity and possibly reality itself as they become immersed in greater decadence. How should we aim to save them from this? 100% inheritance tax. No one has the right to inherit the fruit of someone else labors, while disenfranchising everyone else, and the dead have no right to inflict that kind of injustice on the living. This would act as the ultimate limitation on power, hence the ultimate limitation on corruption.

          • 100% inheritance tax? That’s part of the problem IK. Giving the few in the government money from a lot of citizens just invites corruption. Unfortunately humans have ego’s, And the desire to better themselves and their families through the attainment of secure housing, An abundant supply of food for their family. This was true long before money ever reared it’s ugly head. I doubt very much if we as a species can just will that trait away. At least not very quickly nor without a lot of suffering.

I really believe that where we as a nation really started going down hill quickly was when the following two things happened.

1, A bunch of bankers had a meeting on Jekyll Island in 1913. That’s when the Federal reserve system and it’s Fiat money, Fractional banking and a federal income tax for America was formulated by the likes of the Rothchilds, J.P. Morgan Et all. If I remember, There were 7 at that meeting formulating the future of America’s monetary system. Five of which weren’t even US citizens. Check out “the creature from Jekyll Island” It will show just how deep rooted the class system is. I doubt there is any way to really combat it in a meaningful way.

2, When rapid and later instant communications came to fruition, Coupled with the ease and speed of far flung travel making it very expensive to campaign for office. Which of course made it much easier for the rich to intervene via donations.

Also, As an American living in Germany. I can tell you that my German friends don’t live in the Socialist utopia that our US media or University professors portray. The main reason that most Germans aren’t in more trouble than they are is mostly due to the fact that.
1, When they buy a house they tend to stay in it the rest of their lives.
2, Germans hate credit and save up to buy big ticket items with cash.
3, They don’t buy a new car every 2-3 years. The cars the average German buys is small and fuel efficient.
4, All those safety nets that are talked about come at a heavy price for the average German. That House, Car, Stove, T.V. pretty much every thing but food and medical service have a 19% tax on it. Yep. You buy that $300,000 house and you get a sales tax bill of $57,000. Have a tv or radio in your house. That will cost you 17 Euro=$23 each unit per month in tax.

          • Well yeah but it’s always the greedy that find ways to the top anyway. THAT is the problem. ‘Politics’ is a term used also to express the positioning and manouvering that allows a person to rise through the ranks too. Its teh savvy, smart and conniving that figure out how to take power and keep it. Do we want that or not? Do we want leaders who are savvy like that? I doubt you want weak leaders. Do you want leaders at all? Cos explain to us how to operate on a day-to-day basis without leaders in society…..even in a utopian democracy. Its the big question. And I love to see people discuss and discover as they first get introduced to the big questions of it all. We need a new wave of conciousness. And we need to deal with a rising sense that we’re enabling our own exploitation……..

          • It is a pleasant fantasy for ” us ” to unite, and if we did, who would lead, and to do what? which is why our Constitution calls for limited, decentralized government. People start THINKING ~ and get involved. http://www.voteJVA.com

          • Your comment bolstered in me a relatively new understanding I’ve had.

That understanding is that people can be sorted into 2 groups: [1]. People who want to win [2]. People who want the truth.

People either default to one of these 2 options. I’ve yet to meet a person who is all #1 or all #2 but it is my understanding that the majority of individuals prefer one over the other. It’s just like handedness. We all use both (if possible) of our hands but most of us still use one more than the other.

I point this out because I think it is a profound truth that helps in understanding people and possibly improving the condition of humanity. I say this because from my experience #2 people spend their lives trying to get #1 people to think like #2 people. It is my understanding that this is relatively impossible and counterproductive. I believe it is in #2 people’s interest and consequently the world’s interest to accept this understanding, reject #1 people when encountered and attempt to identify and unify #2 people.

I believe this has yet to happen because many #2 people are born into families run by #1 type people. Rejecting family, particularly parents is extremely challenging. Nevertheless my studies and experience make it clear that #1 people don’t want to change and will not change. The world is now run by elite #1s and supported by commoner #1s. So if any change is going to happen it will need to come from the #2s.

That change can come in two ways: a) #2s can get #1s to think like #2s. b) #2s can stop trying to appeal, relate or support #1s and focus on coming together.

As aforementioned I believe option (b) is the best option. Thanks, I look forward to comments on that.

          • Power always corrupts. No matter who the person is, just have the power in their hands to feel better than others and with more rights.

          • I did my thesis on Owellian theories within his writings, I still have a hard cover copy of Animal farm, it was the first book to ever make me angry, it’s time to get “angry” all over again, complacency breeds corruption, sheep are led to shearing, then when all is taken from them, they are led to slaughter! Stop being sheep, stop being led by false shepards!

      • How about two legs on all fours with head down arse up taking it hot and heavy from Uncle Sugar while they debate political and philosophical notions, spouting and pontificating, but never looking down the end of a loaded barrel? Then they cry when the bungus is turned into the Lincoln Tunnel!. PEOPLE GET THE GOVERNMENT THEY DESERVE.

        • First off, that was gratuitous.
Secondly, JUST WORLD FALLACY! No. No, people do Not get the government they “deserve” they get the government has been moved, shaken, twisted, and pulled, by whatever opinions rise to power with the people who have the means to take said power.
(And in our government that means having money. In feudal Japan it means having the biggest, or best trained army so that one could be Shogun)
The result is that the laws may be initially for the benefit of all peoples, and are pushed slowly (or sometimes quickly) into being used to the benefit of whomever is in power.

          • 2012 was no landslide. Luckily for Obama all of his lies about Benghazi, IRS, Fast and Furious,7 trillion dollar debt additions and his racism along with Holders won’t cost him another election.

          • @ williamhoang I don’t get the point of your question. Are you suggesting winning by a landslide and committing fraud to do it can’t possibly co-exist?

          • As it did in a much more obvious fashion with GWB in 2 elections. In which the second election featured 2 members of Skull and Bones….I mean…really? One of whom is now our Secretary of State. Yeah nothin sketchy about that.

          • And what about the NDAA and the drones? Don’t act like the Democrats don’t have blood on their hands.

          • Okay, little girl… let me lay it out for you. You turn on your tv, most likely to FOX, where they tell you lies that you believe because you’re ignorant and reading hurts your feelings. Then you run around yelling about all the people and children who are being killed in Syria from drones. Then you tell the president he should do something and how he has blood on his hands. FYI, that’s not how it works. He has to get the go-ahead from Congress. Congress doesn’t want Obama to do anything that will make him look like he’s actually doing his job. Then you go on and on about how the president isn’t doing anything, but you don’t take the time to learn about how the government works. Soooo, then he finally does and that doesn’t make you happy because you’re still an ignorant moron who has a color/herb as a screen name. You tell the president he needs to send troops in to save these people, but don’t really give a $hit that it costs tax payers billions of dollars, BUT THEN you b!tch about how many of our troops are being killed and then the president has blood on his hands. MAYBE, just maybe… you should do your homework because you sounds really dumb and uninformed. You’re already failing…

          • Scott ,who are you to tell someone to turn off their T.V. and Read. From your comment You are the one who has his head in the sand , and probably voted for Obama.

          • Um… you live in a democracy, which means if you voted conservative, you’re not voting for this country. I’m not sure if you’re actually aware that Obama has done more for this country than your pathetic little TV show will ever tell you. I am only encouraging the Color to turn off the main stream media, because it’s often trying to jump the gun with facts that are not facts. Networks try to swoop in with assumptions that will get them ratings. They don’t know and often times play it off later as just a “misunderstanding.” It’s not, it’s a lie… I’m getting a Master’s in Political Science and I read at least 7 different sources before making MY OWN OPINION, not just repeating what some uninformed network told me because I was too lazy to change the channel. I don’t even watch TV anymore because it dumbs people down and patronizes them. I encourage you to turn off your TV as well.

          • OK Scott, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. I haven’t watched television in 3 yrs so we’re not going there, BUT what pray tell has your Idiot in Chief done for this country, since there is soooo much? Also, as far as him needing the approval of Congress, he manages to bypass that. So how is the new health care system working out for you? I’m certainly happy you don’t think he’s a liar. As far as “misunderstandings” being lies…….look no further than the White House. Yes, I have quite a few years on you so I’m not a “little girl” as you so pleasantly called someone else stating their opinion. I am also a veteran and I don’t go to news networks for my info. I usually go straight to the govt. websites that can’t hide the things he does. Tired of the finger pointing, lies and flat out BS excuses. He screws up, he needs to borrow his family jewels from the wifey poo and say ok I screwed up. PERIOD. Maybe he might get one iota of respect.. maybe.

          • Fox News is the only one that hasn’t been brought into the Liberal fold and preach the Obama Gospel as if it were the only truth, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CNN and various other mainstream liberal media outlets are paid propagandists for Obama and his cronies. Obama has done everything and anything he can to stick his finger in the eye of the American people through countless executive orders with no end in sight going around congress at every turn, I think the only people who need to turn the TV off is people like you, you have brainwashed by the progressive liberal agenda, if you like being constantly lied to then by all means keep listening to that garbage.

          • To be fair, Fox News was practically “State TV” during the Bush administration. You have to be blindly partisan toward Republicans not to see that. It’s just as bad as Huffington Post and MSNBC in terms of being a cheering section for the sitting administration.

          • God , gave me a brain and I don’t need someone like you to tell me what to watch or who to vote for.I do much more than watch T.V. for my information , I just have a much different opinion than you do.

          • Uh… not really. We live in a Constitutional Republic… and we have had a (small r) republican form of government since the beginning. Our current constitution steers us more to a federalist than the original, but we are still, and have always been, a Republic. Besides, you don’t honestly believe that Democrat = democracy, do you?

          • Our Scott has so much to learn it’s scary. And he pretends to educate us about Fox News and our president. He’ll blame everybody and anybody but Obama. “It’s Congress’ fault, they won’t let poor Barry accomplish anything!” completely ignorant to the fact that the very things OBAMA DID DO are his and the country’s undoing. The Scott’s of the world are so tedious anymore.

          • If you spit on the founders and the Constitution, you’ll like Obama. If you fancy yourself a Marxist, he’s your man. Obama was a lecturer on the Constitution at Chicago Law School, but that doesn’t mean he understands its genius. He would rather have one that ‘guarantees’ outcomes, rather than opportunity. He’d be a great fan of the Russian Constitution. Yeah, that’s great.

          • Since we’re assuming what people watch and/or read, you most likely never get too far from Mother Jones or Huffington Post where they rationalize and defend Democrats for doing the same thing as Republicans. Let’s look at the facts, not the opinions, but the bottom line facts.

Obama actually does not believe he needs the go-ahead from Congress, following the example of past Democrats who ignore the need to seek Congressional approval for military action. In testimony last year his administration said they believe they would have the legal basis for military engagement based upon EITHER Congressional approval OR international approval.

By that same standard, you talk about dual responsibility by Congress and the President when engaging in military conflict, but then say the war is entirely Bush’s fault even though THAT action was approved by Congress, including many Democrats.

It is Obama that has used drones against American citizens without charge or trial. It is the Obama administration that ensured the NDAA was written so that any restriction of military action against American citizens was removed. Bush and Republicans were ABSOLUTELY wrong on the Patriot Act. But Obama is just as wrong, if not moreso for the NDAA. And what did Obama promise… no signing statements to get his way, right?
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eci77PJACCs#t=55

But then he did it for the NDAA and has continued to do it. Not as much as Bush, but he has done what he promised he would not do. http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/12/31/statement-president-hr-1540
Now, pay careful attention to his words.
” Second, under section 1021(e), the bill may not be construed to affect any “existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States.” My Administration strongly supported the inclusion of these limitations in order to make clear beyond doubt that the legislation does nothing more than confirm authorities that the Federal courts have recognized as lawful under the 2001 AUMF.”

However, we find that this is exactly the opposite and the President’s administration asked for those words to be REMOVED from the bill. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_ysdsxF3eo Why would they request the removal of something he would make such a big show over his disagreement? Then, when challenged over that section in Federal court, the President’s lawyers asked for and received a stay on the injunction against that section. So he asked for it, then disagreed with it in a signing statement(something he said he would not do during his campaign), but sent an army of lawyers to defend his right to use this law that he said he wasn’t going to use? Only a blind Obama apologist would try to defend such a ridiculous position.

And before you even start on the “Levin was talking about 1031, not 1021”, the text for 1021 WAS 1031 at the time they were engaged in this debate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Defense_Authorization_Act_for_Fiscal_Year_2012#Indefinite_detention_without_trial:_Section_1021

If you want to make the world a better place, stop giving people free passes for something just because you identify with the same party. You are doing no one any favors(just like fiscal conservatives who support Republicans even though they spend just as much).

          • Because he is FOR one side of the system. Until you recognize that both sides are corrupt, you can’t effectively change it.

          • Hey did you keep your health plan, did they snoop on you, how do you feel about Benghazi, Lies, Lies and Cover Ups, You best stop watching msnbc…just saying.

          • He was pretty much blackmailed into signing the NDAA – it was attached to the military spending bill. You are aware that an Obama-appointed judge overturned the detention clause, right? You are also aware that drones existed before Obama was elected president, right? All he’s doing it taking advantage of the unprecedented, sweeping powers afforded to the executive branch by the Bush Administration.

          • Why is he taking advantage of it? If it was bad during the Bush administration, it’s still bad now.

And Bush did not use drones against American citizens. That’s not to say he wouldn’t have, but he didn’t.

As for being “blackmailed” into signing it… it was his Administration that removed the protections for American citizens from the bill. Uncle Carl spilled the beans on that one. And any action against sec 1021 has been fought tooth and nail by the Obama administration… including multiple attempts by Justin Amash, Rand Paul, and other Republicans to amend it out of the law entirely. You realize that this puts Obama on the same side as McCain and Lindsey “You can’t have a lawyer” Graham, right? Warmongering hawks.

          • Really? Then explain how our debt has tripled under Obama. Explain how things started blowing up the last two years under Bush when he had a democrat house and senate.

          • Actually, you’re incredibly wrong… the debt has gone down DRAMATICALLY because Bush didn’t have a calculator and just liked spending money being the worlds dumbest bully. Turn off your TV and read.

          • That is because Obama actually counted the two wars and the Medicare Part D giveaway to the pharmaceutical companies. Also, Wall Street (and the last president) collapsed our economy. Obama had to pass the stimulus – it should’ve been much larger. Are you aware Obama is the lowest spender of modern presidents and that the deficit has shrunk by billions under him? Just imagine how much better off we’d be if didn’t face obstruction and sabotaging by the GOP at every turn.

          • what the hell books are you reading? he has spent more than all our presidents combined and he aint done yet. your math is flawed, must be common core

          • it’s not about PARTY POLITICS…Jesus! It’s about how, inevitably, government corruption and greed ascend to a level where the PEOPLE must say ENOUGH. This is how and why THIS country was founded and precisely what our Declaration of Independence tells us to do WHEN it happens to this country…WHEN, not IF. They knew the very republic they were founding would fall prey to the same BS they were founding it to get away from. They understood this to be a function of our nature as HUMANS…NOT one political party or another.

          • I stood and did my part. Those who said they were behind me were no where near to be found when I entered the fray. I have called out Federal Judges and have pressed the peddle for 25 years fighting fraud. The judiciary is corrupt on all levels. They were going to lock me up because I wanted their photos for my book. LOL

            http://pogoblog.typepad.com/pogo/2010/09/at-stake-in-the-ubl-case-safeguards-protecting-50-billion-in-taxpayer-dollars-from-waste-fraud-and-a.html

          • One small correction. It is the nature of GOVERNMENTS, not humans. Governments sole purpose, like religion, is control. It is a self perpetuating entity. It grows and it’s control over people grows. As wealth becomes controlled by a smaller and smaller group of people, they become the power behind the throne. Their wealth literally buys the government and leaves the rest of us on the outside looking in. Government becomes nothing more than an arm used by the wealthy to consolidate their control over the world. Our military, another arm to maintain empire and subjugate weaker countries, and rape them of their wealth. We must refuse to be used by these powers to perpetuate their control. We mst refuse to fight their wars of greed against people who, like us, just wish to live in peace, with as little control over the lives as possible, and the freedom to do so as WE see fit.

          • So what is Obama doing about it? Is Obama getting the troops out? Is he even trying to improve the US economy? The citizens of the US voted to keep a man in power who has ordered more drone strikes than Bush, has gotten involved in more wars and is running the US economy into the ground with welfare programmes like Obamacare and Obamaphones.

          • Nope, during his first term he expanded the Afghan war into Pakistan. He dropped bombs on Libya without Congressional approval. Threatened military action in Iran and tried to false flag us into a war with Syria.

          • NO actually he didn’t!! We still have boots on the ground!! So who ever thinks we have “Pulled out” Doesn’t know what they are talking about!! OBAMA LIES None stop to America!!!

          • You are ignorant. I believe he got the troops out of Iraq, right? And is winding down in Afghanistan. And, Obamaphones? Really? You know that program started way before Obama got in there, right? YOU read a book. Geez.

          • Hardly Nobama has added more to the national debt than all previous presidents combined. The welfare roles have doubled to over 40 million from 23 million when Nobama took office. Ignoring war at all costs like ignoring Iran may have many foreseen consequences.

          • 6 years and no one is coming home from Afghanistan yet. He expanded that war into Pakistan. And Obama’s budget deficits dwarf Bush’s.

          • Maybe the choice is little when the media marginalises politics between two parties with few differences but the people still put up with a broken political system so clearly they don’t really care enough

          • I would suggest that the people that re-elected Obama be likened to the occupants of Plato’s Cave. They don’t see the world except through the lens of their forced schooling and upbringing. I think instead of slinging arrows it is more productive to educate them as to the reality of the world. I voted for Obama in the first election and immediately regretted it. It was that buyers remorse that opened my eyes to the shadow puppetry show that is the american government. Voting for any major party candidate is a joke. The ReDemblicats work for the same masters. The only issue that matters right now is preserving our freedom and deflecting the wave of tyranny that is about to overtake us completely…beyond that health care, immigration, insert your special interest here is moot. The ONLY way out of this mess is to enlighten as may people as possible.

          • Unfortunately businesses and selfish bastards are voting in a congress that the people don’t want! If Obama inherited a mess, and congress (majority of the right wing) are making it difficult for the clean up to ensue!

          • PEOPLE GET THE GOVERNMENT THEY DESERVE. If not they would not be sitting in front of their computers mentally masturbating they would be on the Hill making noise.

      • 4 legs that dont want to work with eachother and constantely stride in different directions… yea that sounds like a really clever and relevant metaphor you have used there… well done.

    • I Agree. Just read Joseph Cambells work. When we took the first image of our planet in a vast universe we should have united as one. One world. The barriers and boundaries we create only serve to distance us from each other. really glad someone else feels the same.

      • Joseph Cambell is not only a genious, but has taken the steps to go beyond the intellect towards the realm of saints. Some thought or intellectual understanding of oneness wont be enough, and is where this movement keeps getting trapped in. We don’t need any beliefs. We just need being. The subjective spiritual experience of oneness is what we’re talking about, not some mental/intellectual concept. Cambell does a pretty good job describing a lot of things in terms of the western mind, but there are others who can give you an even more clear, simple, close to the source picture. Mostly, people need to know a technique on how to find the experience of oneness more than ideas about it.

Not trying to bash anyone, just saying that there are many who only have half the picture. Knowledge is empty without the experience. That’s why all the religions are filled with corruption and dogma, because they forgot how to easily give people the first hand experience of God and Oneness. The world fell and all the great civilizations of old passed away when the people forgot this. This new movement is the beginning of the return of a people who live according to natural law, and in bliss, without thinking at all. Harmony with nature is spontaneous and effortless, yet it’ll take some effort to remove all our conditioning and habitual mind. Find some powerful spiritual techniques given by a high master and you’ll see that knowledge is different in different stages of consciousness. All these words about oneness will all a sudden make far more sense, like all a sudden you really heard them for the first time, but then take it further. Get to that point where there is no more need for seeking, as all you experience will be the One Self that is God. All will be bliss. An ocean of Bliss, with every experience a wave of bliss in the ocean of bliss.

Subjective knowledge of the One Self is what is missing, We’ve mastered all kinds of objective knowledge and discovered many things in our focus on individuality, yet we need to bring the balance back in. We can be individuals while being One, it just must be achieved be each person through inner transformation. People need to start walking the walk, instead of just talking the talk. Lets practice what we preach, and find those who have sincerely practiced the most, instead of just listening to those who speak pretty words that seem to be full of truths. Find a master who can give you the experience, and guide you to it. Don’t get lost in all the information out there. Just go straight to the source. Go to those who sit simply in union with this source and allow that to accomplish everything, rather than go around telling everyone how it is. It’s that connection to the source that allows your words to be heard, not the words themselves. It’s consciousness that does the enlightening and the teaching to all people, not the books.

All you have to do is sit next to a master, and you’ll get it. The light that radiates off them, the pure stillness of their awareness, will shatter all the illusions and beliefs until only a silent open mind remains. With an open mind, you experience the source. As long as your thinking about it, your stuck focused on some ego identity created by the mind rather than experiencing your higher Self, a Self that is One with God and All That Is. I’m not there yet completely, so forgive me the contradictions, but I’ve at least got the taste enough to discover this one big pitfall so many are falling into. All the inspiration you need can be found inside yourself. There’s no need to be looking out all over the place trying to find the answers and happiness.

        • That’s very Nietzschean of you, almost a reference to the ‘superman’ as mentioned in his work; thus spoke Zarathustra…and I agree.

        • We are parasites as a singular (the One Self) that consumes, excretes and reproduces or practices the reproductive process over and over. As a collective we are a virus. We kill each other and for what? We decimate the other species and for what, taste? We swarm the planet all 7.2 billion, trashing our environment into toxic oblivion. Our plankton and bees and birds jeopardized while radiation pours from Fukushima without alarm. We have trashed the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico in less than three years. We dump depleted uranium derived from spent fuel rods all over the planet and have a judiciary that sucks testicles the size of beach balls and you want to refer to this species as a master of anything is more of the same lunacy. We can’t even control what goes on in our own bodies. LOL masturbaters maybe.

          • the difference is, we think … we(humans) can do something about the way we think … other beings run on instinct … we can choose to change or not , change takes effort , doing nothing is easy .. so most of us do nothing .. which is the problem :p

          • Thinking is not limited to homosapiens. Maybe. We run on fight or flight too. I think we have less input in the matter than what we want to believe. creatures of patterned behavior. Effort v Nothing, no argument = laziness and apathy. there is more to it……….

          • So you’re saying do nothing? To attempt to unify to end the wars, pollution and corruption is futile. So, hell with it. We can’t fix it because of biological predetermination. If you’re with a group of friends and a big guy punches you out and is trying to kill you…so be it? I don’t get it. When we see injustice we all instinctively know we should fight it. Fear enables fight or flight is an instinct as individuals. However, as a unified group of individuals the fear doesn’t exist. One lioness will not confront the wildebeest, a pack will eradicate. Biological predetermination.

          • I believe in biological predetermination to a degree. Ask a person how they feel about world affairs and they will often give you a very convincing and sensible viewpoint on how things could be changed for the better. But the more people you get together in a room the less they agree, and the more base their needs become. Ultimately people are driven by the need for food, shelter and reproduction, just like any other creature on the planet. And just like any other creature on the planet, we will seek these needs above all else and at the cost of all else. The more people there are, the greater this problem becomes.
Having elected leaders however combines the intelligence and conviction of the individual with the needs of the many and attempts to offset the mob mentality. But again, the more people there are, the more the problem arises again.

Until humanity is able to accept that endless growth (both economically and physically) is irresponsible and frankly endangers the future survival of every species on our planet, we are always going to be biologically predetermined to bloom and then fade.

          • the problem with all becomeone that it’s exactly what someone who wants absolute power wishes, they want everyone to be one mind, one thought, one unit. it’s the same principal Kim Jung Un operates for north Korea. when everyone “puts aside their personal differences” that’s when they lose their identity and people forget how to deal with others who are different. people demand acceptance of others now adays and as a result alot of people have lost their identities to their past heritage, instead people should demand tolerance; instead of demanding that others accept people and one mindsetof others thoughts, races, religion, sexuality, etc. we should instead practicetolerance and accept the differences of others to form one.

          • There’s a vast difference between being unified on a wavelength with the whole of the universe (perpetual life-high, bliss, nirvana, etc.) and being molded and ruled by a man of insane ego like Kim Jung Un.

Sounds like a bunch of hippy mumbo-jumbo, but.. he ain’t lyin. The world is a wonderful place to be outside the mindset and rigid constructs of man and society. Free, open, space. An infinite grid and canvas upon which we can lay out our imaginations. Tom ^^, there is no point in being cynical. You must have a plan/idea/dream before you can manifest it. The past is the past. Whether we have the courage to change is another question.

          • Why try to assert conclusions of what I am saying especially when we are not talking and this is text? Yes, the monkey brain, which is more akin to a fruit fly in terms of DNA design, is doomed. The odds it pulls out is astronomically dead set against it. It is a romantic notion to think that even as a collective that we could be the captains of our own destiny. Simply put there are powers at hand that have more to do with us than us. At its basic core it takes those willing to die for a cause bigger than self and most are so self consumed and apathetic that what you refer to would have happened by now. Look around, many will talk about how they are awake and how others need to be, yet no change. It is a fact that at a gathering greater than (6) six people that the communication efficiency rate in terms of accurate conveyance drops by an exponential factor. How do you propose to bring about change when more than 6 people can’t get on the same page.

I have been on enough committees in DC to vouch that people only have one hope and that is to confess their sins to God, declare Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believe in the resurrection and to try to occupy and learn the lessons of love, true love, love for God and for your neighbor, that is our only hope.

If it was not a spiritual issue, then all could be resolved with a mechanical fix.

          • So, lets all just sit idly by and watch the destruction of man because you believe it is futile. Pass the popcorn. I believe there is a deity. I also believe that we suffer from the fictional books based on the deity. If a group don’t like one fictional book, they write their own out of convenience. Therefore, exploiting another chain that binds us. WE need to be discussing how WE can, and not why WE can’t. Then lay down and accept it.

          • Hate is an extreme and harsh word. This thread is a single digression that does not represent my life experience in total and not be a stretch comprehensive. It addresses the subject and the ancillary digressions that those raise as questions. Life in the meat wrapper is often a personal hell for the afflicted.

However, God has been very good to me and my life has been rich with experiences. It is unfortunate that many have to categorize experiences as good or bad, happy or sad, positive or negative. We are the sum total of our experiences, however they choose to manifest.

My world is a reality few will ever know, especially after being restored from 50% paralysis for over 1.5 hours in Sept. 2004. No medical intervention applied in the ER other than monitoring. Nurse quoted as “It was a miracle and had not witnessed anything like ti even after 15 years in DC area metro ER’s.” When you get taken to the wall the changes and perceptions shift drastically, reality, value, dogma all are challenged in a big way, liberating and isolating at the same time.

Plenty of good, positive things are happening around me. A man who has not walked for 15 years will again soon and I was allowed to be part of that restoration. Past angst towards particular individuals resolving. Music once again is appealing. Health hopefully restoring. Blues skies and sunshine. Reality may be harsh for most Jim, but those who live and play on the surface, from my vantage, are not truly alive. Knowing the heights of joy, requires knowing the depths of sorrow.

          • I will never beguile anyone their right of passion or freedom. I offer all mankind a simple prayer from my heart. Being alive is the acceptance that we are created and love. We can read It in the greatest history book ever written. You don’t have to know sorrow to the truth or happiness. I wish you the best on your new journey, Gods speed Tom.

          • The truth is an objective absolute that stands alone. Looking at my post I framed joy and sorrow, but I get misquoted often and I sincerely appreciate your kind words. Back atch ya!!!

        • We can agree that those romantic notions are mindless “without thinking at all.” Reality 99% of all species ever entering the killing floor are now extinct. We are in a parallel race against ourselves; the population required to garnet the knowledge base to quantum leap and perpetuate/sustain vs reaching critical mass without a solution to tweak the monkey/fruit fly brain.

        • A short and Biblical summation: Love thy neighbor as thyself. It’s the most important commandment, according to God. It’s how He want us to be. And, for good reason. If we follow that commandment, there’s no room for greed. Instead of people asking, ‘how can I get my hands on that’ they’ll ask, ‘what do you need and how can I help you get it?’ The borders would fall with no effort. Governments would lose the power they now have over us.

          • Old Kent hit the strike zone. I have been waiting for this one. Good for you. Some food for thought. You cited the second half of the Two Greatest Commandments. Think of the order, nothing is without reason. You can’t love your neighbor without loving God first. that is why it was in that particular order. Let’s go a bit deeper since love was referenced by Rae Henry, see below.

Ask the average person or even those referring to self as Christian (Christ-Like) what love means. Some will say reverence as applied to God. Others will say a form of compassion or that which is familiar or affectionate like that of a family member or friend. Take a look at 1COR13 and let it soak in. It will drop you to your knees everytime. Love is not squishy and some glowing oozy feeling.

Ney Ney, love is demanding and can be painful.

Patience, Kindness, Selflessness, Forgiveness, Resisting Evil, not being quick ot boast or envy all rooted and subject to charity, sacrifice and long suffering.

Think about those words and then go to bed and ask God please allow me to express the attributes of love. Take just the first one and watch out you have been warned. Oh God please teach me patience. What you can expect is not the superhuman bug zapper from on High that somehow gives you super powers to bite your lip and hang in there without complaining. What you get is tested to the gills in every way and at times that you just wish you could take back what you asked for and go hide.

If you are not a believer and are reading this then ask the universe or the wall to write patience on your heart and mind and do it for all of the attributes and the roots of charity, sacrifice and long suffering.

Even if you don’t believe ask it in the name of Jesus.

Do you really want to know how to love? Go for it, but don’t expect puppy dogs and butterflies. In the end you will see your reflection in the refinement of self and every so often you get to share a glimpse of how you are being crafted and forged. Be grateful for those moments they are all the “that a boy you will ever get.”

          • Thank you for introducing Biblical wisdom to this discussion. There was not one ounce of envy, aggression, or greed in Jesus Christ. Why so many Christians who claim to follow Christ fail to live on those principles is beyond me. I can only assume we are not meant to have the power to follow Christ on our own will but instead need to remain humble before God’s authority. When we do that, He empowers us to live just lives. Wars will end when individual people acknowledge the aggression they embrace within themselves and let it go. Office bullies who justify their behavior for the sake of achieving success need to be shunned not rewarded. The JP Morgan crowd needs more than a fine to correct its ways, they need to be shut down. May God help us all.

          • Why would you say that? Such a dick move. It’s fine to be an atheist, but it’s not fine to chide others for their beliefs.

          • …but i’s ok for someone to chime in on a political post with religious crap? Dickhood works both ways.

          • As if my life is yours to judge?

We rightfully have Freedom of (and yes, FROM) Religion. This means those who care to engage in a religion of their choice are free to do so for THEMSELVES, but are NOT free to mandate that anyone else does. Neither atheism nor sexuality preclude morality or normalcy, contrary to many theists’ misguided belief. Much to the dismay of theists, no one is subject to their whims.

All religions/gods/dogma are mere codification of current/local directives when created by humans, cloaked in borrowed mythology. Only 30% of the world’s population subscribe to Abrahamic Monotheism, and are NOT in a position to judge/govern the other 70% of us. Statements like yours reflect more upon your brainwashing than upon others’ lives.

This has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the original post and has no place in a discussion about it — so, since it wasn’t even you I’d responded to in the FIRST place, it’s obvious you’re just the opportunist I was speaking of. Again, get a life.

          • You judged my life first by your religious crap comment. I don’t care what weird or sick behavior you do in your personal life. Yes, that is your business, but when you or your cronies say something that is bigoted, then I will respond. I bet you think it is just terrible to write a knock on someone’s race, but if it involves any person of faith, then that is just cool. You can believe all of your closed minded religious thoughts you want, that is on you to answer for. But you call my faith crap because your mind decided that it is, isn’t good enough for me to stay silent.

          • Au contraire. I by no means judged your life and in no way had initially responded to you regarding, yes, religious crap. It was regarding Tom Ubi’s novelettes and in response to “egb”. It wasn’t meant as a bigoted statement, but one about opportunism (not unlike yours)… On the other hand, YOU’re the one judging by saying you think my being gay (which, yes, IS my business, not yours) is a ‘behavior’ and ‘sick’. I say to you that you’re guilty of Blasphemy: Using a deity’s name to promote one’s own agenda; non-representative of said deity (“in vain” — sound familiar?)… The one unforgivable sin, yet the most common. If you think Atheism is the “closed-minded” side of religious debate (not that I welcome one from the likes of you), I suggest you take a look in the mirror. Try reading Matthew 5:22 and remember not to judge, lest ye also be judged.

          • First of all, I wouldn’t call their comments “religious crap.” It’s not like they’re posting propaganda or trying to convert people. They’re making insightful comments on the video. Second, I don’t think Zinn’s work deals only with politics, but rather touches on many subjects, and I think others would agree.

          • Remember JESUS upped the anti…he said “Love others the way I have loved you” A higher calling like the sermon on the mountain.

          • A Roman citizen once confronted the great 1st century Jewish Rabbi Hillel. “Teacher, I have read the Torah, and other sacred Jewish texts. I cannot for the life of me make sense of it all. Is there a way to simplify what it all means?” To this Hillel answered, “Treat others as you wish to be treated. This is the whole of the Law. The rest is just commentary.”

      • Let’s concentrate power more? The power is concentrating before our eyes and we are being turned into livestock. and you think this is the way for humanity? A romantic notion and just because you can back it with a Beatles song does not make it right.

        • God is inside yourself. Not something to read, that can ever be put into words. Comes out in your tone and inflection and real feeling, not the letters. Be better because you can. Something very special about this world, here and now. Your every sense, and every atom of information is yours to explore. Come to truly know yourself and hold all of that information stable and you will be in the “oneness” state. Let it all in, for better or worse, to live and experience any feeling is infinitely greater than Nil. Your senses make a wonderful picture if you open your eyes wide enough. Balance, physically and mentally is the whole key; find your centerpoint (3d grid). Stretch your imaginative wings. Break loose of the shackles of stress. You are a magnificent creature, built by life; better than anything man has artificed. Find your balance. Very wide, takes a lot of effort. The mind/body is perfectly gyroscopic if you can break that shell. Strive to feel every bit of yourself. You are electric.

          • God’s word was written down for me to read which tells me right from wrong and this “Oneness” mess is just a bunch of New Wave mumble-jumble.

      • Pfft, Lennon was another ultra-rich idiot. “Imagine no possessions. I wonder if you can?” Only John Lennon had a lot of possessions, didn’t he? He was worth over $150 million and was living a lavish lifestyle in Manhattan when he died. He sang about peace and non-violence, but gave money to violent radical groups like the Black Panthers and the IRA and was a serial domestic abuser. Almost everything he did was conformist, he was always trying to “fit in” somewhere whether via Hinduism, astrology, etc. In the 50’s he wore a leather jacket and a pompadour, in the early 60’s a suit and a “mop top”, in the late 60’s-early 70’s a hairy hippie in a dashiki… and he was quite an LL Bean-type d-bag hipster when he died.

        • So you’re saying that he was wrong to do things he believed in because he was rich? As for The Black Panthers and the IRA, they were both radical organisations but I’m sure they wouldn’t have been violent if they could’ve achieved their goals peacfully.

        • Turn it in, Smith you rotten QUILFTH. Lennon was admittedly full of shit but you don’t get the “Catcher in the Rye” MK-Ultra knock-off treatment because you’re not a threat to the controllers. Chapman was a CIA puppet, and his “Double Fantasy” album, released just 3 weeks before his murder, sealed his fate. He’d been living as a house-husband, keeping his head down, but this album was a clear indicator that Lennon was back with a vengeance. And the CIA decided enough was enough. So wind yer neck in Smith, son, lad, man, lad.

        • You know nothing about Lennon. He was born in an old port city, as the World War II bombs fell, had an absentee father in the merchant marines and a mother who took flight when he was barely of school age. He was raised by an aunt in a time and place where everything was scarce, and no one could take anything for grants. You have a computer, or a cell phone, a television, a comfortable place to live, and whatever else you have that already puts you miles ahead in wealth over what he had when he grew up. He had nothing. His first guitar cost five pounds and had missing strings. People in his town played skiffle music.. With aqcuired instruments such as washboards, and stings tied to buckets. When he met another guy (Paul) with a guitar who could play it was a Godsend. George was the kid who followed them around, and could read music. And in the early ’60s, when they made it to Hamburg, Germany, with Pete Best and Stu Sutcliffe, they played in the Red Light District in dens of ill repute. They slept in a room where they could hear the rats scurry, and where previous “tenants ” had used the corners for a bathroom, but they kept playing. (Have you ever had to sleep in a place that that for months?) When they finally did tour Europe at The Beatles with Ringo a couple of years later, they had two road managers, and one drove the van that they slept in every night. That was their “hotel” and their transportation..There were missing windows in the back, and they piled on top of each other for warmth. Does this sound like your life? They were lucky when Brian Epstein discovered them and helped promote them, He got rid of the leather jackets, and put them in suits, and get them into the U.S. On their first visit to the U.S., they found the luxury of even our middle class to be very impressive. Lennon was courageous, innovative, and a trendsetter without even trying to be. People followed his lead. As time passed, he became so outspoken that Nixon and Herbert Hoover had the FBI tapping his phone and tailing him. He died for YOUR rights. You are clueless about him. Wake up.

          • Hahaha. This is hilarious. Lennon was a woman-beater and he emotionally abused his own son. These are facts. Seriously, FUCK John Lennon.

          • He was not poor. He lived with his Aunt very comfortably. If you know about Stuart Sutcliffe, then you know Johns Punch to his head was “considered” the reason behind Sutcliffe’s death. Even if that is not true, he was very mean to Sutcliffe often. John was talented and he had his good side, but he was very messed up. He would be the first to admit this.
When he was young he often made fun of the handicapped.

          • Adolf Hitler was a vegitarian and believed in God. These are also facts. Does that make him a good person?
No it doesn’t, you can’t judge a persons character by only taking a few parts of it into account.

          • Um sorry but physically and emotionally abusing women and your own children is a pretty big fucking character flaw. NOT AT ALL comparable with Hitler believing in God, and the “fact” about him being a vegetarian was actually recently reported to be false.

            So much for “peace,” eh?

          • Mendips, was the name of the house he lived in. Poor people don’t name their homes. He lived very well with his aunt. Do I need to show you a picture of the “slum” known as Mendips ?

          • Lennon actually had a well off childhood compared to the other Beatles. His home was considered middle middle class. His uncle George Smith owned several dairy farms, so they were not poor by any means.

        • You know nothing about Lennon. He was born in an old port city, as the World War II bombs fell, had an absentee father in the merchant marines and a mother who took flight when he was barely of school age. • How old are you, 20? You people and your revisionist history. Have you read any of the books by those closest to the Beatles over the years or even George Harrison’s book? Have you grown up watching all of the interviews, even with John’s aunt while she was living? I doubt it. You people call yourselves truthseekers, yet you are blind to the truth and supply disinformation to the public. You are all probably CIA plants.

          • @Sherrye Weinstein: what would my age have to do with it? This is what John Lennon said in an interview with Playboy, that came out a couple of months after his death:

“All that ‘I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved’ was me. I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically… any woman. I was a hitter. I couldn’t express myself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women.”

Now, he then goes on to justify and explain away his own hypocrisy, but I don’t let him off the hook so easily. Why would anyone take advice on world peace from a man who couldn’t even keep the peace in his own household? I think I’d be more inclined to listen to someone who actually lives their philosophy of peace, rather than just paid lip-service to it for its PR and marketing value.

He beat both his wives, and emotionally and verbally abused his eldest son Julian. That’s pretty well established, and on the public record. I invite you to do your own research, and stop believing the mythos around JL and the Beatles, itself a product of cynical PR execs, selling 30-something Baby-Boomers the sounds of their yoof in the 1980s.

          • Yes, he had an alcohol problem, he could be a violent drunk, he hit Cynthia (his first wife), he could act like a jerk. (His “lost weekend”. for example, and his exploits with Harry Nilsson certainly embarrassed him later on.) You assume I don’t know all of this> But he was trying. People’s idols have feet of clay. He made big mistakes in his life, and he acknowledged that. Believe me, I’ve discussed all of this many more times than you have, only because I have followed his career since I was in grade school in 1964. But your comments about his domestic violence issues, etc., are not what I was responding to. They have nothing to do with what the original poster said. Mark Smith was criticizing his lavish lifestyle (so what?), and intimating that Lennon contributed to violent groups (he had no association with the IRA, and even though he did befriend Yuppies Abbey Hoffman and Jerry Rubin, as well as Black Panther Bobby Seale, that doesn’t mean he was supporting them financially). Mark Smith also implied that Lennon was a conformist. If he was such a conformist, why were Nixon and Hoover trying to throw him out of the country? And why did he die as soon as Reagan and Bush got elected, once he no longer had Carter’s protection? Come ON.

John Lennon sang about a lot more than peace. His music reflected everything he went through. Many of his songs were far from peaceful! But he was WORKING on transforming his bitterness and pain. That’s all we can ask of anybody. Why discount his positive efforts because their were some terrible mistakes in his past? I wouldn’t toss the baby out with the bathwater. He wasn’t Jesus, and we was always the first to remind us of that.

          • How do you know “he was trying”? Were you a close associate of his at the time?

I would rather take advice on ways to achieve world peace from people who actually live their philosophy, rather than manipulative, politically clueless operators like John Lennon.

re: “And why did he die as soon as Reagan and Bush got elected, once he no longer had Carter’s protection?”

Are you trying to say that the ‘Merican gubment was involved in shootin’ our peace-lovin’ Working-Class Hero? Got any evidence for that?

          • Who was ever taking John Lennon’s advice on peace? We were just joining him in the sentiment. I didn’t know anyone who was “taking his advice”. (How do you know he WASN’T trying by the way? Were you a close associate of his at the time?)

As far as his assassination, we will never know. But did you know that John Hinckey, who attempted to assassinate President Reagan, was a family friend of the Bushes? H.W. Bush, former head of the CIA, was Reagan’s Vice President, and almost became President. Without going into a long story, one of the Bush sons and his wife had planned to have dinner with a couple of Hinckley friends before the assassination. It was all very “buddy buddy”. The senior Hinckley (dad) and H.W. Bush were both oil men, and the families were friendly. It came out right after the assassination attempt, but then it was quickly covered up. Also, the senior Hinckley ran a popular charity called Worldvision, with CIA ties. Guess who they recruited? Mark David Chapman.

I don’t have time to do your research for you. Do it yourself.

        • My post was about the message of the song, not about the author. Shall we throw out the theory of gravity because Newton put people to death for stealing from the king? Or the constitution because it was written by salve owners? Lennon wrote some great songs that spoke the truth. Often in history those who spoke the greatest truths were the last to live up to them.

      • Wow…. someone mentions a great theme song and this is what happens….. Sensitive little keyboard jockeys should learn to get over themselves.

    • That my friend is a worthy dream but if it ever came to pass it would be a hive mentality and that is not freedom that is just another form of slavery the greatest part of freedom is freethinking !

      • Our free thinking is currently being taken away along with our other civil liberties….the majority of the population is under represented. He’s not saying become just like everyone else or a robot, immdawg is suggesting that our political party and religious distinctions etc. make it acceptable for us to distance ourselves from others and give us the notion that we are more different than alike, and prevent any type of lasting REAL change. In reality I think most of us want the same thing. To love and be loved, to feel safe and secure, freedom to express ones self, and to have meaningful purpose. We may all feel different about how to get there but the end goal is the same.

An example of why focusing on our differences (country of origin, race, political views, etc.) can be detrimental, is it clouds the view of the basic goals that most people want to achieve. It keeps us on the defensive and causes us to attack the opposing view and point out their faults and short comings, essentially pinning us against one another. Most American’s including myself have been taught from a young age, whether consciously or unconsciously, that we are the best country in the world and that we know best and are above the rest. This common idea that has been instilled in us from a young age creates a prejudice against people from other parts of the world and prevents us from fully understanding others and accepting them for who they are. America needs to get off its pedestal and realize we are not the most important, we are just a subsection of a very large world. If we put all the bs aside and as a planet worked together to achieve a common goal that benefited everyone, there would be no hunger, no poverty, no war.

        – Also how is everyone being treated equal and being accepted for who they are a form of slavery? Equality and acceptance is what I believe immdawg meant by become ONE. If you like free thinking and freedom than you should be very upset about the things happening in our world today that our destroying our freedom instead of making a nonsense comment on something you clearly don’t understand.

        • Exactly!!! Without a unified front, we will not achieve the goal. I’m not saying to give up religion, individuality or beliefs. We need to set aside the petty fights that divide us and focus on the issues that WE all KNOW need to change….NOW. The powers that be depend on our divisions to hold us back. They hold them up. Our divisions have become their foundation. I’m not saying overthrow or revolution. Unite to alter the current futile course, and build from there. As a race, we have become numb to the horrifying realties of this path.

    • I couldn’t agree more. Political parties/ religion have created a segregation that doesn’t help us work together but tells us that the other is wrong just by default.

    • But we’re not one. My values aren’t your values. What happens when one of us refuses to give up his values to become “one?”

      • Exactly. We are not one. That is the problem. And this doesn’t necessarily mean that all must have the same values. Each part of the world is unique and must strive for its diversity. Diversity is the essence of evolution. The key is to develop a world view that we are all Humans; we must throw away the idea of being American, or European, Black, White, Male or Female. We must change the way we value our fellow men and women of this world for it is drastically obsolete. This is the value that must be upheld. The one’s who cannot change will eventually dissolved from humanity for they shall have little representation of their beliefs. We certainly don’t need everyone on our side. But it is important that we have the correct people in power that will distribute said power to others in order to create a world of balanced security and freedom.

        • To become one gives validity to what Matt Damon was speaking of dictatorship. Open your eyes…we are Americans the land of differences, and we all agree to disagree. We have a issue with the wrong people being in jail and the wrong ones being out of jail that statement is 100% correct! There is to much corruption in the Government and to many people trying to control the masses…NO ONE has the right to tell anyone else that they know what is best for them….The left, the right…both directions lead you straight to the ocean full of deadly sharks! We have a power grab problem…and we have a non educated problem. No one votes correctly..no one reads about the individuals running for office! I don’t want to be ONE with anyone else…I want to be me, and follow the laws of my four fathers and my GOD…live my life for me, do no harm to others, pay my bills, help my neighbor, love my country and whip my child’s ass when he and she step out of line! I want to be able to raise my children to respect where they came from, who they are, what I have done for them, and those who have fought and died to keep them free!!! No more hand outs, no more entitlements, no more excuses!!!

          • No one has the right to tell anyone what is best for them? I have intelligent friends who can’t reach a basic decision of what to choose from a menu to save their lives. The majority of people get challenged by simple choice. While they will bitch, they can only function within defined boundaries with apathetic blinders on.

          • so would you want to give those people control over your life? I would prefer to have control of my own life because I know whats best for me. Others Can’t handle a choice on a menu, correct?

          • I am not a slave farm drone bound by convention, debt, societal expectation or typical notions of dogma, folkway or mores. In fact I am a person of interest by the what is referred to as the intelligence community, this is a confirmed fact. I am the exception in many ways. I would not want to give those persons control, but again the average self centered slob is not me, N/A, not applicable.

My vantage sees the 1% elite who make it off our backs, 97% sheeple who are selfish, ethnocentric, ignorant, lazy, worthless, greedy, corrupt, etc., 2% illuminated, usually without capacity, and on the wrong side of the equation.

          • Well said, Michelle. BUT!
It’s bigger and deeper than that.
Our government has put our troops
in harms way for decades for greed
and power grabbing. They are and have been
out of control for 75 plus years.

This ONCE great nation is sliding down the
toilet ever so quickly. We have been sold a bill
of used and worn out goods that have been
manipulated to favor certain sectors and interest.

It is truly a shame and we now need to stand up
and not be the sheep that go U.S. in this position
            to begin with……………………………….

          • Is there no common ground? There are three major issues with long term ramifications. I know that we ALL see eye to eye on. War, Corruption and environment. I’m not saying give up individuality. I’m saying we ALL need to stand and fight for these 3 major changes that NEED to come to fruition…NOW. Just agreeing to disagree changes nothing. However, from what you are saying there is common ground based on moral responsibility. That is the foundation on which we can ALL build.

        • I would like to add here that I do not mean that we need to live in a world of peace and harmony with all of our fellow men and women. This is a notion I find hard to comprehend when trying to justify the balance of our ecosystem; our foundation. Instead, we must cast down the lenses from our eyes that distort a truth most have long forgotten; a truth that has lead us down this path of destruction: We live within a domain that is governed by the Law of Life; a law we have been fighting against since the dawn of our Agricultural Revolution! We have forgotten that we as a species must live within the boundaries of this law just as we must fly within the laws of aerodynamics. This Law of Life implies that we are a part of One System, a process that can only strive through diversity and limited competition. When we can understand the Law of Life and its implications to our culture then and only then will our species survive.

      • Actually, my values are your values 🙂

Are we talking about basic core Human values like love, compassion, contribution & connection etc? Or are we talking about something that’s of a shallower level of consciousness like ‘beliefs’?

We are one. All the same. At the core. It’s those who are not acting in accordance with the core Human values and instead, are acting on what they ‘believe’ to be right or good or favorable or necessary based on their own perception (not a world view) etc that is the true issue here.

Matt’s point is just that. Whilst we’re choosing to believe the bullshit story about who we are and what we’re capable of and what’s REALLY going on in our beautiful world (yes, with all it’s colors & contrast) – as fed by the carefully crafted system of ‘education’ (media, school, religion etc) – we’re still not living the values of a Human being.

How many times do you have judgemental thoughts every day? Lot’s yeah?
So in essence, you’re not LIVING the values of a Human – which is love, compassion, empathy etc

You can’t go to church on a Sunday, call yourself a Christian and then live your daily life judging others (for not picking up their shit, for asking too much of you, for not liking you, for taking that parking spot etc et-friggen-cetera lol)

Instead, you’ve taken on the belief that has been ‘fed’ to you that ‘it’s OK to judge’. It’s OK to be sub-human. Not your full potential. Sub-WhatYouCanBe. Because you’ve been fed the lie that life ‘is what it is’. And it’s not. And neither are you.

This is the issue. Wake up.

Stop believing without warrant. And continuously without proof.
It is time to stand up. You. Everyone.

Have you noticed the awe-inspiring up-rise across many fields and industries where Human rights (core values) are being commanded? All the sports peeps, the entertainers, government officials, scientists, educators – SO many people – have you noticed the increase in outspoken protest against the oppressive mechanisims surrounding Human rights?

It’s time to disobey the rules.

        No power without the people.

        No war without the soldiers.

        No peace without disobedience.

        • I would ask you what love means, but you would probably Google it. We are all one if you want to say we are:
          65% Oxygen
          18% Carbon
          10% Hydrogen
          3% Nitrogen
          1.5% Calcium
          1% Phosphorous
          0.35% Potassium
          0.25% Sulfur
          0.15% Sodium
          0.15% Chlorine
          0.05% Magnesium
          0.0004% Iron
          0.00004% Iodine
          ————————–
= $5.00 (U.S. Dollars, which are actually Federal Reserve Notes that have no value)

……but hey we can always rationalize and pretend.

      • I think you would be surprised to find out your ACTUAL values and morals are in line with a commanding majority of the rest of the planet. Question: Do you want you loved ones and future generations to live in a polluted, corrupt; war torn society? These are the causes we need to fight. I’m not saying one in our thoughts beliefs or politics. One in the fight for these causes.

        • The ongoing main one – religion – until we have unity in religion we will always be at odds. Christians hating Muslims, Muslims Hating Christians, Jews Hating everyone etc. We need to order this religious argument that has been going on throughout ages. Even now they talk about war with Iran as if it was a Nuclear Issue when in fact it all about religion. Now Islam is fighting itself in Syria. Its a difficult situation to reconcile.

    • With all due respect, I wholeheartedly disagree. We are already ONE human race, but what makes our race so beautiful is our differences! Our differences bring color and vibrancy into the world. That said… while embracing each other for our differences, we need to see past it in order to understand our similarities (and based on my bountiful life experiences I am certain that we are far more similar than different). I am a Christian, but I would never demand that anyone change their beliefs on account of what my beliefs are and I would hate if someone did that to me. Before judging others or trying to dictate the way they live their lives, put yourself in their shoes and think about what that would feel like. To each their own! FREEDOM to choose is what makes this country so great!

      • It’s not about ignoring the differences, it’s about acknowledging that we are all the same despite our “differences”.

          • It is not the method of elaborating that is required to identify how we are not the same. The variances are obvious. How anyone wants to arrive at a common denominator of sameness beyond the obvious of consumption, excretion and reproduction is a reach.

          • We are not equal. It is a romantic notion sold to us by Uncle Sugar and the Mind Candy Machine as a feel good. Why should we acknowledge anything that is not true? Respectfully, and stay with me and run this to the ground please, do you think you and I are equal or even have equal rights? Are you willing to go there with me tonight in a polite constructive manner? Let’s give the rest here something to think about shall we?

          • Ah AP a wise O2 pod! Me thinkeths you know me. However, the pain, in all forms, mental, emotional, physical, some can argue spiritual, and not in a masochistic way, has a great value, it teaches us humbleness, humility, and the value of relief and deliverance from the pain or that which vexes. Some call me the Pain Train.

However, this is good you brought this up. Let’s take cancer, we all have acidosis the fundamental requirement for cancer. Statistics predict 41% of us will receive a cancer diagnosis in our life. Chemo and radiation is a farce and anyone with half a brain will agree.

Yet, the conventional white lab coats will coax those that you reference as seeking relief and will sell them a bill of goods of complete dung. How often is DCA or Artemisinin (which Gates invested $20 million into) and the true medicinal hemp with high CBD are pushed out front of any Big Pharm chemo/rad approach? In a sense I am glad they don’t listen to me, too many people in my air space and if your fears and stupidity keep you from making the right decision, then those shall perish who lack knowledge.

I still have the duty to present it even if it is not selected and it rarely is and only by those who deserve to live. Think about it, many of us have heard the expression that to repeat the same process expecting a different outcome is the definition of insanity. It is a well know fact that the pushers of chemo get chemo credits that apply to timeshares and vacations. Would you trust that? Yet, the alternatives, which have volumes of clinical and/or documented testimonials are ignored most of the time. Your seekers are often riddled with fear, ignroance, stupidity, laziness and never ending ego.

I have figured out much, how to arrest gout, how to control hemochromatosis, why would I ever want to share it when it cost me more pain than can be explained. Who deserves the solution at the cost of my pain AP? It is my pain and I have earned the solution by my vigor, my stripes and my dogged persistence. Those who remain idle, well we know the venerable adage, dont we?

          • Tom. Based upon the diction of your previous comments, I respected what you had to say. That is of course until you posted “The Cancer Report”. It is easy to believe a conspiracy such as this when you only view the evidence from one side. While I agree that nontraditional medicine is under-credited in our society, and shady stuff does occur in our medical, and particularly pharmaceutical industries, the belief that there is an overarching conspiracy is not only not supported by statistical and analogical evidence, but would be such an incredibly large feat to keep under wraps that it would be essentially impossible. I know it is very appealing and exhilarating to entertain the plausibility of conspiracy theories, but for the sake of reason and of every innocent person reading your comments, I implore you to really truly look into the evidence from both sides before jumping to rash conclusions.

          • Jesse, facts were presented in the video. Your retort consists solely of mere conjecture. If you have clinical studies from PubMed or the NIH or some valid source, then meet the argument with logic and fact driven digression, not by trying to gloss it over or lessen it as a conspiracy theory.

The video you accuse of somehow being a less than what it purports, without any substance in your retort, was found on a facebook page RESTORATION STATION, which is authored by a RN, Michael Anne McAllister. I cannot say enough about this lady and I seldom ever use the term anymore. She became fed up with watching peoples hope fade from their eyes as they walk in with cancer and left with no hope from the results of chemo and radiation that just never seemed to work. You will get margin gain time with chemo and radiation, at the total expense of your immune system and when it rebounds, usually in under two years, with a few exceptions, then it wipes you out. Michael Anne set out to find the way to get the most for those diagnosed with cancer, TO INCLUDE HERSELF. Her story speaks volumes and if you have anything to complain about after watching a RN who spent 25 years, day in and day out, contending with what you have tried to throw water on, well then Sir you are the problem. She practices IV therapy in the Philly Metro.

I have looked into the evidence from both sides and inside out as well. I had to, having iron overload caused by a genetic mutation, hemochromatosis, the #1 genetic disorder in our country, I had to for my own survival (this is the inside out I referenced, see above). Fact cancer feeds on iron. Fact, doctors are given incentive with chemo credits by Big Pharm to push units of chemo. Credits used for their enjoyment. This has been published by various authors. Fact, and by only one example, artemisinin will kill 100 bad cancer cells to one good cell, chemo 10 bad cells to one good cell, in other words arty is 10 times more effective, but arty is a natural compound that can’t be patent as is DCA. DCA a 90% reduction of a liver tumor associated with pancreatic cancer in 2 weeks, published by an MD.

Few will go the long mile, few and most have been so conditioned that when the teet oozes poisoned milk they still nuzzle up and swallow. My sharing falls on deaf ears all the time. I would estimate 70%-80% of the time. There is the occasional person who engages. In passing without thinking I shared on artemisinin with a woman who was helping me help a couple set up a wildlife sanctuary in Florida. Her sister was sent home to die with breast cancer, chemo done, rad done, no more room to run. I caught up with her a few months later. She took the steps. Sister engaged an alternative health care professional in SoCal, who confirmed my suggestion and also started to clean up her GI where most of our issues reside and provided her with the sustenance to enable her body to fight.

Month after month, CLEAN LABS. Doctors were amazed could not explain the turn around. Her and her new found friend decided to air it out and check off some of her bucket list not knowing when life was going to throw another curve ball. They traveled and enjoyed life. It made me feel very connected and I had a deep appreciation for being given that insight and contending with ney sayers like you was worth all of the pain.

Then I get a call from the woman I initially shared about artemisinin informing me of the wonderful things her sister with a new lease on life and her friend were doing and how after returning from Asia where they visited numerous countries arrived either in LAX or San Diego, proceeded to drive home and how a drunken Mexican, illegal alien, enjoying our country while intoxicated with standing warrants, crossed over the line, hit them head on and killed them both. Now there is some reality for you Jesse.

Under-credited? That is a superficial reduction of cause and a dilution and misdirect that somehow is suppose to make greed and profiting on the backs of the common person amenable?

What do you call a conspiracy theory when it actually realizes? As applied to cancer treatment with chemo and radiation it is big bucks and not a far stretch. It has nothing to do with being appealing it is about waking up people to the reality of the day, and that is they are managed livestock, no different than animals at the slaughterhouse. Again your retort is absent of fact driven, data backed, argument, rendering it as nothing but conjecture and weak. As far as appealing, maybe it is you who seeks to appeal to those who are not capable of thinking for themselves or are so bought into a health care system stricken with more fraud than the defense industry and possibly banking that you are the pied piper for Dr. Death.

You can try to refute this as well, but I will warn you in advance you will only look stupid, either now or in hindsight: STATINS a $12.5 billion/year scam, 100% SCAM. Now that is sizable Jesse, $12.5 billion is nothing to sneeze at although I have not compared it to the annual sales of chemo. I have contended for 7 years that statins, lipitor, crestor and zocor will result in the largest class action suit in American history and here it comes Jesse.

NEWS FLASH: Cholesterol does not cause atrial blockage, LPa-Lipid Protein alpha, which cleaves to the cholesterol and esterfies it does. 100% of all of our hormones are made from cholesterol and 60% of our brain matter.

Yet, Big Pharm, the do gooders and the last mile pill pushers you so affectionately want to protect, continue to feed the slave farm with nonsense and death. Well Jesse? Want to refute it or maybe you want to refute the FDA who within the last 3 months have issued “soft peddled” warnings as not to create alarm or make their initial approval of statins paid for by the BIg Pharm lobby more palatable?

FDA: “statins are causing renal failure.”
FDA: Statins are causing memory loss and accelerating dementia and Alzheimer.”
FDA: “Statins are increasing morbidity rates in women.”

Well fooking duh! Facts, Facts, Facts. Ohhhhhh but it must be a conspiracy! LOL, whatever.

          • The only part of your response that I can even remotely agree with is the statins scam. While I do not believe that it is part of some grand, premeditated plot like you imply, I agree with you that there are inordinate amounts of doctors overzealously prescribing this stuff to loads of people who by no means need it, and are probably suffering because of it.
However past that I can no longer agree. The majority of your response features singular cases of anecdotal evidence, which I don’t consider to be of any use to this argument. With a population of 7 billion, single cases of success or failure mean almost nothing. And your first argument, cites the work of RN Michael Anne McAllister. I would simply like to point at that her fb page is littered with conspiracy theory links, including no less than THE MOON HOLOGRAM conspiracy! You’ve got to be kidding me? Want some more? She also posted the conspiracy that HAARP altered the weather to create a giant tornado in Oklahoma to divert news attention away from an IRS scandal! You might retort that these in no way affect her specific expertise in the field of medicine, however you are placing your health in the hands of someone with such a huge lapse in judgement of the real world that they believe these things? And if YOU agree with her in these beliefs, then this debate is over as I’m not going to waste my time

          • This is a great video. Thanks for sharing Tom. It is shared on my page…and I expect some sheeple will give the required and automatic criticism. Calling me a nutter, and oh ah the conspiracy theorist!!!! Blah Blah Blah. One day the truth will be believed and we can all move on and be healthier. Best wishes to ALL.

          • I suppose you built your computer or smartphone (after inventing the technologies), engineered the software, invented HTML (as well as the concepts of language and the specific alphabet and grammar that you use–then TAUGHT IT to everyone responding to your comments), laid the high speed cable, harvested the energy to power it all, and then wrote this celebration of doing things on your own and under your own power and then distributed it via the satellites you’ve built and launched into orbit? You’ve probably all done this from a home that you’ve built with plumbing that you’ve installed which is connected to a municipal waste water network that you’ve designed and implemented.

          • Close to it. I have built my own computer, I use to game and needed the ability to overclock and max out my rigs, which resulted in the #1 Instagib Capture the Flag team in all of Unreal Tournament.

I never built a smartphone and I claim not invention rights to any of it, I give credit where credit is due. I have scripted in HTML when it was just a raw editor and in the early advent of Cold Fusion, I am a contract specialist by trade and classical musician at heart, but dabble enough to have ushered in under my design the International Trade Network, which surpassed eBay in every way, even now. Unfortunately I had to do the hat trick of keeping on top of the development and lost sight of the need for venture capitol, hindsight is 20/20.

I have been working on language in part by finding a mode that eliminates the requirement of assimilation (reading) and by using sound induction and translating knowledge blocks from words, symbols, into wave forms, superimposing the body to learn via osmosis. Music is a language as well, so in affect it is not a reach to conclude that resonant signature, whole body vibration therapy and sound induction and constructive water techniques are a valid perpetuation of the ultimate language, hyper-communication, which I have demonstrated on many occasions. Standby on this one, because if there is a predicted effect then yes I will be able to teach the world to sing in a new, most efficient, exacting way.

As for laying the cable. After speaking with locals telecom expert in the Florida Space Coast, where many brilliant laid off minds form NASA reside, and after being asked to fund an initial internet rollout form a local who ran a BBS bulletin board and after talking with the nice of Indian origin from the NSF who was responsible for the request for proposal to commercialize the internet, my friend and international design engineer in 1986 I believe that was the year, decided to start Access Net, which evolved into IXC Telecom. I negotiated the peering and transit agreement from MAE East and the Sprint Cloud in NJ to bring initial backbone bandwidth into Florida. The players where Worldcom, MFS, UUnet and a few others. In effect our efforts are still enable the packets to flow when I hit enter for your reading pleasure.

my past also includes working on payloads and ground operations for McDonnell Douglas and also the solid rocket boosters after the Challenger accident for USBI, Untied Technologies. I have been on many Space Transportation System programs to include the shuttle and ELV, Titan, Atlas, low orbit, etc, that included communication satellites and other payloads. I also was the sole failure point for two weeks on the Hubble mission prior to launch under the NAS-10-11400 contract. Lockheed prior to the Martin merger bought the wrong circuit breakers which needed to be fabricated and were a long lead time part to fabricate. I took the lead on the mission critical desk and delivered in 3 weeks, which enable the launch manifest to resume. I was actually was permitted to see the lens of the Hubble that supposedly started to be roughed out in the 1950’s, needs to be confirmed. I also have the largest cost savings to date in NASA history delivering approximately $3.5 billion in savings from 1989 to present. Initial savings captured was $17 million, I received a $200 employ suggestion check after cross referencing 65,000 sets of NASA Design Engineer drawing on the 62K, 79K and 82K drawing configurations.

I could harvest my own energy with solar, wind generators and Fresnel lenses, but I don’t want to have to deal with the home owners association since they will stick over the privacy fence. I do plan on having a deep fresh water well put in at sometime. The plumbing is already geared for grey recaptured water so I did not have to address that issue, new subdivision. Plus I am not very skilled with building houses and fluid dynamics such as pluming and leave that to the experts. I have a friend who is obtained his journeyman at age 16 and master plumber status at 18 or 19 he is brilliant. I am not all things Anthony, just well lived.

            No baloney Tony! LOL

            =D

          • Smoking to many drugs kill brain cells! P.S. Ben Franklin invented and shared all ideas without monetary gain for the good of all.

          • I would not know about smoking too many drugs. Although you may want to direct your statement at 21 State legislatures that just legalized marijuana and the Feds who ratified by stating they would not enforce beyond that permitted by State law.

Franklin was a mason and engrossed in the occult. He, as was Edison, were sellouts. Reference Tesla and Reich and tell the world what happened to them Jim. I did not read anything on how Franklin harnessed radiant/orgone energy. Please “Illuminate” me. LOL

          • I will give you Edison was a nut job, and Tesla should have the credit, but Ben Franklin invented or initiated things for humanity, and did so without financial benefit. I suggest you read a book about Ben Franklin before you try to smear his reputation. Read a book with footnotes so you can verify the fallacies you proclaim. Ben Franklin has so many donations to mankind the list is to much in this forum. TI will get you started. He initiated: The first Library, Fire Department, Police force, American Philosophical Society, wrote,The art of Moral perfection, Articles of beliefs and acts of Religion, Poor Richards almanac, The causes of Earthquakes, Behavior of storms off the Atlantic coast, invented “The Pennsylvania Fireplace,” , Initiated the terms “Positive, and Negative,” The “Plain Truth” lead to the first militia (which he commanded). At nine years of age he (9) used a kite to propel him across a lake, at 12 he published a weekly article “Silence Dogood,” taught himself, French, Italian, Spanish, Latin, and German, so he could read a wide range of material, learned to play the harp, Violin, guitar and made a new instrument the “Armonica.”
Mr. Franklin loved to have a beer but was against drunkenness. There for he would not approve of Pot. Albeit for medical innovation I’m sure he would agree.
Mr. Franklin was a visionary, unlike what you led on, and this only touches the surface.

          • The glass armonica was responsible for great neurosis, do your homework please. So he invented an instrument akin to a player piano scroll with holes under water that drove the player of the instrument mad, go Ben! Any denying he was a mason? Regardless of all the “theories” what can be concluded is that the masons by there very nature do not see the world as one and they are just part of the swill. They will tell you they are character building with compass and rule, but it is just another means to separate as was identified early on in this thread. If the essence of their boys club follows the early Rosicrucian then assent and mastery do not readily identify with my common dull self. Although I am glad they like to play atlas and keep the world spinning, I need some form of entertainment between naps.

So if those who think unis and One is the answer I suggest they start to dismantle every organization, which most by default, thrive on division or separation. Therefore your “There for” is an ill founded non sequitur that follows a conclusion based on anti matter. The likelihood old Ben used some form of an indica tincture was probable whether for a general sedative or aches and pains. Alcohol based tinctures were made through the early 1900’s you can find collectible bottles on eBay.

I never denied he was an inventor. I just challenge the emphasis on his place in history and the extent of his philanthropy, which at the end of the day I could care less. Now if Ben invented a machine to make me new adrenal glands I would wallpaper my room with his face.

          • He was a mason (in fact, Grand master) as my father was. Does this nullify his tremendous accomplishments? If so, your “could care less,” opinion could conclude, you wouldn’t be lying where ever you are with out Ben, or the “one.” Our society has lost site of reading the many books of (accurate) history, as our founders did. We can leave anti matter for science.

By the way Ben loved the “taste” of beer. He thought it was from “Heaven.”

          • No it doesn’t nullify ushering in his accomplishments, which while associated with him are manifests from other places. Our society is about strip malls and strippers, losing sight might help things be easier to stomach. Sometimes I think that Lady Justice is either really kinky or she just can’t stand to see her scales full of dung so she is blindfolded.

Beer is great if you want to feed candida and inflame your gut with ethanol and acetylaldahyde, the waste product of candida. Heaven usually doesn’t send mind altering chemicals to destroy the temple.

Glad for Dad , but some in here probably think of dear old Dad’s affiliation as a dividing factor of the “One.” All perspective from each our own vantage. I know of a high ranking mason that is elevated higher than anyone in the States. He refuses to sponsor anyone to any lodge in the U.S. because he believes the U.S. is our of order. Secret hand shakes and calipers and rulers and little hats with tassels have no real pull on me.

Helping children, great, especially cancer kids and burn units. I use to drive to the top of Georges Grand Lodge and look out over the lights of Alexandria, great sight at night. The 7 degree sloped elevator was a hoot and the quick close curtains to the ark of the covenant replica had a neato effect. It just seems like a bunch of hoopla to be part of the club.

          • Tom…
I came across your posts and to be honest I am very intrigued by your knowledge. I am in no way a writer, scientist, or college accredited professional, quite the opposite. I am a crafts person, artist , sculptor if you will. I am a creative thinker and believe the best for all, but unfortunately that is not whats happening here.
I usually avoid blogging in fear that someone will blast me on writing skills or just be rude, so I hope that isn’t the case here.
As far as having how to control hemochromatosis and arresting gout. I am curious, and I agree that big drug companies have deep roots as well as pockets embedded in our government and the answers are right in front of us.
What I am interested in your opinion on CBD /THC research and keeping patents out of the hands of Big Drug companies or anyone for that matter. I just have been doing personal research and it seems that answers are right in front of us and we are just too stupid, scared, or proud to admit it.

          • Thank you. I am not yet prepared to share my findings on gout and HH yet for a few reasons. Mostly because they were realized through years of untouchable pain. I had my bicep ripped off and reattached. My shoulder pushed 4 inches onto my back and screwed together. Take the two combined, multiple the pain by 10 and the pain from gout is at about that threshold. Plus I have doctors and other health care professional courting me to partner. I am not in that head space, nor is my overall health capable right now. I will say 2014 stands to possibly be a landmark year for me and I have hope.

Ask whatever you want to know about CBD/THC. Let’s start with the legislature, most of it sucks. If CA incorporated the county allowance of 99 plants as a default to the State legislation it would be iconic. Most reply 99 plants my God man are you wanting to make a Cheech and Chong sequel! No. We will get to that in a minute.

Fact: Smoking weed only delivers 2% medicinal value.

With the fact as the premise, how does one conclude that everything we see rolling out in terms of MMJ access to be valid? The recreational users love it, but most who are in real need never get access and never in the proper form of vegetative (juicing) or oil. Therefore, any legislation should address (3) three verticals 1) Medicinal, 2) Industrial, 3) Recreational in that order of weight and value. Recreational should be taxed just like cigarettes. Industrial should be taxed at 10% with incentives for job programs (imagine a crop in each county of the nation just for toilet paper alone). The recreational and industrial should pay for the true MMJ and afford the medicinal to reach the poorest of the poor.

Dr. Courtney and his girlfriend, maybe wife by now, are in the SF Bay area I think, have publications and vids worth the watch. If you want a good baseline understanding. Also anything you can get your hands on regarding the endocanabinoid system . Constitutional medicine in the wholistic world is that in which nature gives us a hint of its usage. As with bud it looks like our pineal gland, which is the gateway and primary master of the endocanabinoid system.

THC – has its usage in both decarboxilized and nondecarboxilized states. Stativa for metabolism, Indica for a sedative. I find nondecarboxilized Sativa (diesel in the experiments I was allowed to observe) in coconut oil to be highly effective in nuerotransmission that enables forward thinking similar to being 3 moves in front of a chess match.

CBD – Your CB1 (neuro) and CB2 (immune) receptors are where it is at. The currently are only at 50% or less turned on in send mode. As I am sure you are aware CBD is the lock and key that makes the CB1 and CB2 optimize and turn into send receive points. They are found in your brain, heart, major organs, all through your GI tract, and your spinal fluid. In th eGI the CB2 is responsible for direct impact on G protein synthesis, which participates in DNA sequencing.

I worked on trying to deliver an extraction process void of any chemicals using sound. I was motivated because while I appreciate Rick Simpson for pioneering his process is badly flawed resulting in petroleum residue in the final oil product. The homogenization I used at 450W full duty bound organic oregano oil and water to the point nothing I did would separate them. I was certain, especially after reading Chinese tests that used seed, that it would work. I failed. I was set back I was certain it would have worked. The good news is the process I used can be readily applied to a supplement delivery system I am working on to heal myself, a great motivator. There is a clean version of the Simpson method refined that uses everclear, which is what I would go to if no funding was available. The best out is Super Critical Fluid Extraction using CO2 and innate gas that leaves no residue, extracts all of the elements of MMJ and seems to be a gateway to enable specific isolation individual terpines and cannabinoids. Small rig is about $50,000, but man watch out you are heating a 10,000+ psi cylinder that if it breeches will cut everyone in the room in half.

Juicing and making med oil are valid forms of applying MMJ, NOT SMOKING IT. CBD is the front runner although there are so many things we still do not know the future holds exciting possibilities. Just the anti inflammatory aspect of the plant will knock the snot out of Big Phar and about two dozen poorly designed synthetics. The Truth is kinetic it can be suppressed for only so long.

          • Tom , again I am intrigued with your knowledge and typing skills. .You and I have to meet.

.I happen to be hands on kind of guy, I visualize, I build, I create. An artist, creating juxtapositions and often sarcastic recreations of issues in society.

Okay Simpsons oil, great idea, old concept. Petroleum based extraction can not be safe, common sense says so. I literally had this conversation with my wife about coconut oil and its possible extraction properties compared to olive oil or food based glycerin which floored me when you brought that up in your response… So I know I’m heading in the right direction. Then I discovered CO2 extraction, and this is exactly where I want to go. It seems to be the purest ways of extraction except for releasing CO2 in the atmosphere, which someone will blow the whistle at soon enough. I have a green thumb, and I am absolutely intrigued with the plant. The possible health benefits and the discovery of how cannabinoid molecules seem to dock perfectly within our endocannibinoid system seems to good to be true. Ancient knowledge? Why does this “weed” look so different, so alien but is so familiar to our DNA? Could this be the apple in Biblical writings, or even the burning bush? hah….That is a whole other discussion “as ancient alien theorists suggest” in a History Channel narrative voice…..

The individual genotypes of the plant and the ability to breed stable traits rather than synthesize or genetically modify is huge. Think about it, all the MMJ caregivers or providers that are actually studying and developing the plant free of Govt funding. All private and personal, not a dime out of the taxpayers pocket. Right where it should be, in OUR control and out of Big Pharmaceutical. That’s where I am interested in focusing time and studies, I would like to look into breeding Industrial CBD rich, balanced with the proper trace THC levels for specific medicinal purposes. I had a OMG moment earlier when I was reading scientific reports on breeding genotypes and phenotypes and our endocannibinoid system. I am originally from upstate New York and there is an abundance of local growers using seed from previous harvests for generations. Also I unfortunately know many people who have developed cancer from this area which proposed this idea.

What I would like is your thoughts on recent discoveries of cannabis oils and treatment of cancers and other medical uses. As stated before I am aware of supercritical CO2 extraction and would focus my research here always with safety in mind. My question is : Do you think of the phenotype of the plants ability to cure would be proportionate to the environment in which the ailment possibly developed?

We after all products of our environment. Cannabis genotypes are influenced by genetics and environment as well. So one would think that this might be the key, or a nudge in the right direction? Similar to local organic honey having medicinal properties that benefit that local population.

I appreciate any information you may have on this topic, I look forward to future discussions.

          • Twisted Emotional Quotient (EQ) has been short changed. Never explain yourself again. I would rather spend a day with someone like you. The balance of arts and gymnastics is what Plato and Socrates agreed on as the universal or Renaissance man.

          • Already have done that, see below with the elemental break down by %, which does not make the expression of the individual equal or equal rights certain. Now that we have established our link as carbon based life forms can we get down to it?

      • I think you missed the point of the comment ( not trying to disrespect your intelligence) I may not have worded clearly. I’m not saying we need to give up our individuality, our religion or politics. There are daunting issues at hand that need our unified attention. I am sure that we are morally unified on these issues. We know they are inherently wrong and need to change. I pose this question to validate my statement. Do you want your loved ones and future generations to live in a polluted, corrupt and war torn society? For these are the issues that face us ALL.

        • Isaac Asimov’s “Three Laws of Robotics”

A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
          The future is now.

        • I’m going to use Tom Ubl’s post and many responses to it as a pedagogical tool when I teach rhetoric–if rhetors write sentences or speak in a way that is grammatically correct, the audience is more likely to believe the content to be true, no matter its actual truth value.

          • Try me. Put your money where your mouth is unless you are scared. Pick out anything I have written in this thread, whether directed at you or others and challenge it. Put up some cash, I will match, it will be held in a indiscriminate way by a fair broker and lets get to it. Otherwise you an empty gong ringing over the fields of the mundane and ignorant.

      • There is no freedom when a society chooses political correctness and anyone who does not follow the herd is attacked. Freedom is not something that was given to me by a person, my bank account or a government. Freedom as our constitution says, was my birthright given to me by God. History shows us what happens when people choose power for themselves instead of gratitude for the life we’ve been given and the world that was created for us.

      • @Robin — So if someone believes that a woman should be stoned to death after committing adultery, then that is okay with you? You’re not going to “judge” them? How about when a man kills his daughter or sister after she has been raped in order to preserve the family’s “honor”. Would you not demand these people change their beliefs?

“To each their own” just doesn’t work in a world where we are all connected and all one. We all suffer injustice when one individual suffers injustice. Even the very notion of justice is undone by allowing others to get away with immoral and hurtful behavior — whether that be polluting their neighbors water, raping a girl, killing a relative who was raped, discriminating against someone based on religion, gender, or sexuality (something VERY prevalent in the most Christina states of our Union) or any other form of vile inhumanity.

By the way, for those who think that morality is relative, it has been conclusively shown that in fact it is not, and that basic moral principles humans have, are, for the most part shared even by other primates such as chimpanzees and apes.

Not Christian or Jew or Muslim, not Hindu,Buddhist, sufi, or zen. Not any religion or cultural system. I am not from the East or the West, not out of the ocean or up from the ground, not natural or ethereal, not composed of elements at all. I do not exist, am not an entity in this world or the next, did not descend from Adam or Eve or any origin story. My place is placeless, a trace of the traceless. Neither body or soul. I belong to the beloved, have seen the two worlds as one and that one call to and know, first, last, outer, inner, only that breath breathing human being.
      RUMI

      • Not one as no religion or without individualism. One as in, banded together to fight the oppression that is pushing us down. Do you want war? Do you want to see the planet reduced to rubble? All it’s resources drained in the name of the almighty dollar? A moral ONE. The lacks of morals and genuine concern for the path we travel, for us and future generations. It is likely by the time our children and grandchildren grow to be our age they will live on a devastated planet. In a volatile and deadly environment. Threatened by nature, famine and fellow humans. This is not a world we imagine for our future generations. WE are at the tipping point on many issues that will produce this reality.

    • the reason why the world is the way it is IS because of industrial farming, jobs need to be created and through calamity, breeds problems, and they need problem solvers. And at the rate this population in THE WORLD is growing, you need jobs. Dont just focus on America people.. It’s the WORLD. We are all connected… When one side is dying we may prosper but not for long..

    • uhmmm that sounds like communism. its should be more like this. all for one and one for all. we should celebrate our differences but fight for the same cause. that is how it should be.

    • You can’t become what you already are. That leads to a cramp. We need to remember… and science will attest… nothing is separate. The heart does not compete against the lungs, nor the liver with the spleen. Likewise… it’s one ecosystem. One world. One Consciousness. Not an opinion. Not an ideology. There is a difference between a totalitarian homogeny and world unification. But for that, we need to get out heads out our asses… and that… well, it’s in very deep.

    • No monetary system, food is produced for profit and not to feed people, shelter is produced for profit and not to shelter people! Money a root of all or most evil!

      • Actually, the quote is that the LOVE of money is the root of all manner of evil. Money is just an inanimate object. It can’t be evil by itself. The good or evil comes based on what we decide to do with it.

    • Well said, “humans for humanity”. There’s got to be way more good people than the bad out there. We just need to rise as one, stop being freaking lazy, and do something!

    • This is so damn generic, sure we DO all become one in times of crisis because our goals are aligned, but right now and forever always the goals of mankind will be different because of the diversity that is omnipresent in society. These distinctions aren’t our chains, there is no reason that a muslim and a christian cannot get along or agree. It’s ignorance and a lack of education that makes it so they can’t see beyond their own comforts that cause arguments. So, you’re 2 cents is we all need to become one, I’m asking one for what? One for change? What change? There’s so much change needed, it get’s started when you stop just preaching change and start preaching an actual cause for change.

      • No, my 2 cents is not all we need to become one. Question, do you want you or your loved ones to live in a polluted, war torn and corrupt society? Just a simple yes or no to yourself. The question contains 3 causes for change. If you can answer yes to any of the 3 causes please, let me know.

        • Rethink your statement, would anyone want to live in one of those three scenarios? Do you recycle everything you purchase? Are you donating all your extra time and money to impactful social enterprise or charitable foundations? Are you researching your local politicians to check their backgrounds and views? It’s easy to say something, it’s harder to actually do it. My issue wasn’t that you hoped for positive change, it’s the general hivemind thought of let’s start a change, but not ever considering the practicality of how to do it. Everything has consequences, when the NFL donates losing team t-shirts to a poor rural village somewhere in the world, kids get free t-shirts, but guess what else happens, workers who make local shirts have no buyers for the next few months. No buyers means less money, less money means less food and worse. Everything action has a consequence, sometimes you need to dig deeper than the surface level.

          • So, because the defense contractors make money from death and destruction of other our brothers and sisters, we shouldn’t stop it? Why, because our other brothers and sisters will lose their jobs? I don’t want to see anyone suffer a job loss,. But, I would rather see our brothers and sisters alive. Helping us fix the aforementioned scenarios. Yes, I research my representatives. However, their agendas change once they are in the game. That would be due to corruption. Yes, I am a charitable man, I donate my time, for excellent groups. I recycle everything I can and conserve on consuming goods that come in recyclable containers. Leaving just one more question for you. How can you use losing local business in a discussion on war corruption and environmental collapse? As for digging a little deeper, we are right now. Debate begets solution brother.

      • I am not suggesting to give up your individuality, religion or politics. The statement is meant to suggest we put aside our individual personal differences. Then find our moral common ground. I pose this question to you. Do you want your loved ones or future generations to live in a polluted, corrupt and war torn society? If you can answer yes to any then we don’t have moral common ground.

        • In case you have missed it, we are all “one people, with different beliefs” its why its called the United States of America. If you are advocating the “Live and Let Live” say so. But your statement was to abolish our different beliefs to become one. You did say we are not to be Christians, Muslims, Democrats, or Republicans ETC. That is the Communism all for the state worker bee belief.

    • Careful everyone who said that before you and got famous got shot in the head for some reason. Why do we all need to wait for Hollywood or the news to tell us to do something about our world when we damn well know we should be taking action nd by action I don’t mean hitting a like button and thinking your going to change the world in the process.

      • I am more then the average button pushing activist. I didn’t need Matt Damon to get me in this debate. I have been in this debate since 2003. I have been on the streets, the phone and the nerves of my representatives for all that time. I haven’t voted for any member of the “so called” 2 party system since I was brought back to reality in 2003.

        • Awesome How very American and human of you I wish more would do the same but it takes a minority of brave leaders to help them overcome their fear.

    • I have thought this for a long time……when I was younger I used to hope we would be invaded by aliens so humans would have to resolve their differences and stick together!

    • We must delegate new departments of justice and preservation of liberties. WE have many many many world organisations dedicated the the enforcement of laws. – Yet practically none, for the preservation of liberty and pursuit of the TRUTH!!

    • I believe he WAS saying we are ONE. The message I heard was to unite despite our preferential parties…which really don’t exist anyway. We have people like us, who happen to be in the White House etc. who are merely acting the roles in this big play and we the people are the ones watching. We have no say really. They are working on dismanteling our unity and only WE can stop it.

    • distinctions are good…and I am willing to bet a week’s pay that if I want to make ALL people the same…you would resist, unless they all believed, and acted as you do. You sound like a first year college student…all theory..”rainbows and butterflys”

      • One as in a united front. Not one as in brainwashed zombies. Not as first year college student, I’m almost 50. Definitely not all rainbows and butterflies here. Do you want the senseless killing, terrorizing and oppression to continue and magnify? I’m hoping the answer is no. Do you want big corporations to continue polluting this planet to extinction? I’m hoping no? Do you want those same Corps. to continue buying your government and the governments around the globe? Again, I’m hoping no. Would you like to see the outright financial fleecing of the people by a few organizations? I’m hoping no. The statement is to forego our differences on matters that fall short of the aforementioned issues. To be Humans for Humanity by putting and end to these issues that pose lethal ramifications for many generations to come. We ALL know these issues all stand to decimate or oppress life. All in the name of Greed and Power for a few.

    • Yes we all need to unite but with knowledge. I wonder if Matt Damon knew
what he was reading! Two problems the first being the Rule of Law –
“When our forefathers established governments in America they laid their
foundations on the common law. And when difficulties grew up between
them and the mother country, they acted as their English ancestors had
always acted in their political troubles – interposed the common law
as the shield against arbitrary power. When the United Colonies met in
Congress, in 1774, they claimed the common law of England as a
branch of those “indubitable rights and liberties to which the
respective colonies are entitled.” And the common law, like a silent providence is still the preserver of our liberties.” Any time we unite
there will be a leader and if you don’t know what he is saying you should
not follow. Therefore the Rule of Law in all the free sovereign
Independent Union States is Common Law not Roman Civil Law which is what
all the Municipal Corporation use. Second we cannot do it the same way
our Founding Fathers did with the Declaration of Independence for “We
the People” are now the collective Sovereigns so if we revolt who do we
      revolt against?

All we have to do is educate ourselves. My

I am one of “We the People”, /S/ Steven Pattison

    • let the star trek era begin! hahaha! but seriously we the people need to support this amazing truth that matt damon so elegantly put out there for us all to see. now don’t shut your eyes and hope that this will just happen. something like this will take the majority of the public to stand up for our rights as citizens and not let the big bad government force us to take our seats once again. we have come far from where we were in 1990 on the glbt community. now let us take back the whole of what has been ours since we were consciously aware on this planet we call earth. that whole my friends is our freakin declaration of independence!
on a side note imddawg is right on with his 2 cents!
on a side side note if you can’t think of how to help the cause you can start by doing as Michael Jackson once said: “im starting with the man in the mirror…. im asking him to make a change…. my message couldn’t be any clearer if you want to make the world a better place take a look at yourself and make the change… nana nana”

    • I think what it really comes down to is being one like you say, but allowing each to believe and act as they please so long as that action does not affect my home and the way I believe or act. All of these “laws”, “bylaws” and so on are a bunch of over thought garbage when really all we need is common law. Do what ever the hell you want within your realm of freedom, as long as you are not damaging the environment, or limiting your neighbour’s freedoms. Simple and trimmed of the BS. We get all these other laws in place because people fail to think and want the though process done for them. When we want socialism, we want fascism, as that is the circle to goes to.

    • Genuine Christianity like Mother Teresa, and there are many like her is the answer.
Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life works in a corrupt world with so many factions.
Christianity should not be judged by those who use God’s name for evil.
What ever we do to one of the least among us; the heart wrenching helpless hungering
and thirsty for life we do to Jesus. Ref. the end of Matthew 25

    • I disagree. We all need to embrace our individuality. We should live our lives however we see fit without harming others.

    • We cannot all become ONE because some of us (the 1%, for lack of a better term) is interested in maintaining these power structures and global exploitation. It will benefit the vast majority of us to Unite for true revolutionary change, but for the people who are currently in power, the holders of wealth and political influence, it does not benefit them.

That’s like telling a society of 99% humans and 1% of vampires who suck all the blood that they need to all unite. It won’t work.

That’s not to say that we should demonize this 1%, because it’s not really their fault, they are simply doing their jobs, they are doing what the system demands of them. The problem is the system that creates such a radically tiered hierarchy of wealth and power.

    • I don’t know whether I agree completely, imddawg, although you do make some interesting points. I am attracted to many of the ideas inherent in Humanism and the idea of exploring the connections we have with other people instead of crucifying them for our differences. Humanism is a beautiful, kind and empathetic approach towards recognising that we are all made up of the same “stuff”. We are all, in fact — human. This is a wonderful take on existence (although my comment can barely do the approach justice) but I also propose an extension to this theory. In order to improve as a species, we must also acknowledge our experience as animals and our link with NATURE, too – or else we will continue to act as Gods on earth and destroy the planet in doing so. One final thought to chew on – what if viewing these “distinctions” as our “chains” is the wrong way to look at it? We are not the Borg, after all – or at least, we’re not yet (and I personally am not too keen on the idea any time soon). We are not citizens of world – we have been formed through our culture and cannot escape that fact. What if, instead of trying to abolish distinctions between countries/peoples/religions in attempt to create one “Way of Being”, we work towards celebrating our diversity? This is different from using the differences to form barriers between peoples, AND it is different from homogenising a whole bubbling cauldron of experience, personal and cultural history, traditions and beliefs. YES, we are all human, but that doesn’t mean you must be as I am.

    • Oh yeah…that will work…except for this little thing called WILL….people Are not content to live their lives and leave others alone, SOMEONE always wants to force THEIR beliefs and will on OTHERS……Go ahead and take off those rose colored glasses now….cause it will NEVER HAPPEN!!!

    • Now you’re talking!! It’s the way forward for humanity. It’s the very essence of life itself, the evidence is there all around us. Everything is One – energy just vibrating at different frequencies.. Separation is an illusion & as you said is holding us down as a race. We’ve become so suppressed by religion, political & media influence ,obsessed with power, control & egoic needs we’ve forgotten why we have actually been given this opportunity & what we should be doing with our time here in the first place. Shouldn’t we be living to better ourselves & living in harmony & balance with the world & all life on it? Shouldn’t we have been doing it a long time ago? We All need to wake up!! The fact that a lot more people are waking up & realising such wonderful things now after a long time asleep is very encouraging & I hope things continue to move in the direction they feel like they are going.. 🙂 Well done people lets keep moving, keep spreading the light, great things await us all.. 🙂

We are not citizens of world – we have been formed through our culture and unique experience and cannot (should not?) escape that fact. What if, instead of trying to abolish distinctions between countries/peoples/religions in attempt to create one “Way of Being”, we work towards celebrating our diversity? • We will never become “one”. There are personal traits, cultures and behavior that will always be unacceptable to me. I don’t not have to accept the unacceptable for the sake of harmony. Once the bar is lowered, it will never come back up. It is achievemnt and contribution that makes a people great, not go along to get along.

    • So you are saying that we should do exactly the opposite of what Mr. Damon talks about? Should we become communist and should we really all be the same? It’s our differences that make us HUMANS. The fact that we aren’t the same is what helps us survive, adapt, and thrive.

    • I agree! Beyond what are beliefs bottom line is we are Americans. I think a lot of this political showboating by politicians is the equivalent to WWF wrestling. Come out with a good show then meet for scotch and cigars. All the while sparking the public to stand divided.

    • If you say it often enough, would you eventually come to realize, and indeed know it to be true, to believe?? …
      To be clear;
I am a Child of this Earth, begot from a single Nation
      The Nation of Mankind.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
      Enjoy Peace

    • wrong, Muslims, slaughter Gay’s, cut the noses off Girls, stone Women for adultery, etc. The Tea Party believes the Constituion if Honored, would stop the corruption in Washington and Government. Occupy believes the Constitution needs to be Abolished. There can be no Honor in an Alliance with such diverse enemies. When the Enemy d’ Jour is finished, Who among the “Victor’s” , is next to be vanquished?

    • We all need to be loving and caring and unselfish and charitable and fly with pixie dust and live happily ever after. Live in Fantasyland and you and the things you hold dear will be consumed by those who do not and WILL not hold flowers and sing “We are the World.” You are fool. Well-intentioned and probably a good person, yes, but a fool nonetheless.

    • I’m behind you there imddawg, why not all try to “do the right things for the right reasons” and stop arguing over details, hxx

    • The only way this could ever happen is for all of us to have a common direction led by the same laws. The Law I follow is Jesus Christ. Now I may prove my point by all those that object to walking the same path that I am on because I will never sway from the path that I am on and few are going to change the path they are on. I rest my case.

    • We can’t save ourselves, and there is no way to make billions of people all just “agree” or “get along”. And that’s the problem. There is ONE truth. The trouble is that people want to deny that one truth more than anything. People do everything they can to push away the truth, to run from it, to bury it, and as a result people bind chains around themselves and enslave themselves, whereas this one truth promises to set people free. But as soon as I say what the one truth is, people will immediately fight against it, deny it, spit at anyone speaking of it, because that’s the nature of humanity. Humanity wants to be saved, but it refuses to do the one thing that must be done to BE saved. And that’s why, mark my words, this world will NOT get better, only worse. I’ve said it – I’ve made my stand – who will respond, repent and seek the truth? No one.

    • Yeah I guess then we need those pesky assholes to give up their Gods and culture and just really be the kind of ONE you want them to be. Good thing you are here to save and instruct all those brown people, those people who worship heathen Gods, those women. Save us, young twenties white male libertarian! Teach us ALL how to be ONE!!!

    • That’s a utopian thought but I happen to agree with you. It won’t happen because humans are too selfish, but it’s nice to hear one person say what you did. Well done.

    • A one-party state is the worst idea ever. Choice, multiple parties, diversity, differing opinions is what we have and need to continue. It’s finding a common ground that we truly need to move forward.

    • I disagree, what makes our nation great is our diversity and expressing it. Where we have failed as a society is in letting our dissimilarities take precedence over our similarities. For example, legalizing homosexual marriage and marijuana have become big issues and cause a lot of drama between conservatives and liberals, which means good TV for the news networks. But, these need to be set aside and addressed after the larger issue of our national debt and budget have been stabilized. What does it matter who can marry who and what we can and can’t take into our bodies if our government has collapsed, or who will have jobs if the government continued to raise taxes instead of reforming medicaid, medicare, and social security. Politicians don’t want to lose the senior vote by changing those three programs, but they are 2/3 of the national budget and cost more than all tax revenue combined. We need to all get back to looking at everything through the lens of the Constitution and use that to find our common ground, because that’s what it was designed for.

    • I don’t think people label themselves for the reason to be chained down and only sometimes does it affect anything in there lives. I am talking about the labels we add.. there not so important at least those, but we should agree that laws should be important. we should put value on some things when other things we should not. I use the word we loosely on the web but ..I think he is calling out the importance of focusing on the important things it is not a idealist reading as much as a motivation speech to me.

    • With all due respect, which of your beliefs that help define you are you willing to give up – or live contrary to – in the name of unity? Who would you suggest should have the authority to define the ‘oneness’ of humanity? A Buddhist? An atheist? Christian? Humanist? So much of our current division is the result of over-reaching authority trying to ‘level the playing field’ and making life equally fair for all people. We can’t all be the same because we are uniquely individual! Every successful culture needs people to fill their personal role, that which they were created for, and not be what the govt deems they should be. Some people are mechanically inclines, some have scientific minds; some women want careers – with or without families – and some women want to stay home and nurture her husband, children and home; some are entrepreneurs and some want to work in union jobs; some people want to teach and give speeches while others want to spend their day in the field with the crops or animals. Some people want to give generously to charities that touch their hearts and others choose not to do that. Some people will become very wealthy and some will struggle with their finances. All of life is about equal opportunity (not equal results) and personal choices. I resent anyone who wants to take away my choices or the results of my efforts in the name of being ‘one’ with someone who plays the system.

    • Under whose leadership? By which laws and rules? Who makes them? What if I’m the Leader and you do not like the laws/rules I put in place? What will you do then? You see imddawg, you’re naive. Your ideology, while sounding nice and sincere, has never worked and never will. We are human beings, created by God to first honor our Creator, live by His laws, and treat one another with dignity, respect and love, while being governed by leaders. How we select those leaders and make laws is up to us. No laws, no leaders and we have anarchy, a society of people out of control. If you do not believe that then you are seriously naive.

    • I’d say accept that others are different. Quit enforcing change upon others. Allow others to live as they are so long as they do not infringe upon another person’s same right.

    • That all sounds good but it’s not as good as you think. We cannot become ONE because that would ethically violate all that it means to be individuals. These distinctions you speak of are not our bonds but our last hope! The problem is not the distinctions, it’s the imposing and assuming of them, rather than the accepting and educating of them. Think with me, if we were all ONE (Which we will be again like we were 6,500 years ago or so), who defines what that ONE is? Would you like it? If you didn’t, how could you change it – the answer is, you couldn’t, you’re…stuck…as…ONE…in order to achieve what you’re looking for, you’d have to cancel creativity, deference, reality, spontaneity, intelligence, and humanity…I don’t want to be ONE, I want to be ME.

    • Nice idea but when we’re ONE then someone will split off and present the oppositte as an option and this is a good thing. They already tried being ONE in the last century in communism and socialism respectively (two distinct systems) and found that the human spirit is repressed by everyone being one or the same. Its a nice sentimant and no-one would deny that your heat is in a nice place, but the Dem/Rep thing came from arguement/counter-arguement which was the basis of our revolution in 1776. Still, a country hasn’t surpassed our ability to draw from the power of saying ‘no’. So refine your arguement about oneness – you look nieve and dangerous to those who really break it down. YES – the present system seems to be driving us out. So we have to break the cycle. But statement like you are making are very flower-power but they don’t help anything practical. God Bless ya though!

    • I have been saying the same thing, bro! the labels we identify with keep us divided and fighting each other instead of fighting back!

    • there is one problem, Muslims do not want to coexist! They want everyone to be like them under sharia law, to believe like them that there is only one God and his name is Allah. If you do not, they want to wipe you off of the face of this earth. If you don’t believe this, look at all the public beheadings in Muslim countries for simply being Non-Muslim. Heck they can’t even decide who is the best Muslim and they kill each other for it. When talking about uniting and putting aside our differences, Muslims can’t comply because the Koran says that they must convert or kill us if we are not Muslim

    • That’s all nice and good to say but it’s only an ideal. Sure we all want to be one but people have extremely different ideas on the way that society should move and those ideologies are largely attached to political parties. To say “let’s all get along” is to say that everyone in the United States should ignore their values or drop and replace them. There’s so much fighting, vitriol and political strife because each side wants the other to surrender their values so that they can advance their agendas.

Your idea is awesome but it won’t happen in this life.

    • I disagree. We can not and do not need to become one. Why would that even be wanted? Diversity and differences are needed and healthy and the way God intended. Respecting each other inspite of being different and living with good character. But absolutely fighting for what we believe in a civil dispute is not a bad thing. And there is a reason for faith. Muslims need to become followers of Jesus Christ. Not in any way the other way around…..

    • The only way to enslave people is to unite them. The only way to liberate people is to separate them. Independence is the essence of freedom. To each their own.

    • “Strip yourself of all unique identity! Dedicate all your life to anything, as long as it has nothing to do with your own self-determination! OBEY the ONE Global Tyranny!” imddawg (paraphrased)

    • New World Order baby. What you said would make sense, but unfortunately that is exactly what’s wrong. We don’t need to become one and forget everything we know and stand for and forget our heritage and religions to be able to live in peace.

    • There is no collective mind, only the individual mind. One in principle, but the WHOLE POINT of the Constitution is the right of the INDIVIDUAL to live with dignity in a United States. We can be as partisan as we please,we just dont need statists
like Barry to ruin everything for us.

    • Nonsense. We should not and cannot “become one”. The nature of life and the beauty of creation can be found in its diversity. Unity only exists on the transcendental or quantum level (depending on whether you are of the scientific or spiritualist bent). The various expressions of human knowledge and creativity are in fact part of God’s plan. To try to make everything uniform is a naive, uninformed and even dangerous. It’s a misplaced search for security that can only lead to stupid, stultifying socialist policies and tyrannical regimes. Embrace diversity, challenge yourself to be greater.

      • Why start off in a discussion with someone by calling their passionate plea “Nonsense” unless you wish to divide yourself from them as though your opinion, and it is opinion, is better than or superior to theirs?

        • The answer is in my statement. Certain ways of thinking ARE “dangerous” since they can lead to the suppression of our individual liberties and creativity. And my “opinion” is founded in the HISTORY of our human adventure. I do not think I am “superior” in this matter, just more informed and correct.

    • The term “Neighbor” is higher than either Right or Left. Any rigid dualistic paradigm is binding and enslaves and works to annihilate any true unity–the very thing we think that we, as Americans, represent. Sadly we do not. We represent the very opposite of the ideals of the Founders. We are divided and in bondage to false ideas. And in our sleepy bondage we simply “obey.” JWC

    • Your ONE sounds a lot like a ‘one world government’. We cannot all live in peace, when the Muslims believe they are to kill all the infidels, aka; anyone not a Muslim. Our country started to fail when they took God out of every public venue, i.e. schools, court houses, etc. I do believe we should all get along and be kind to one another, but everyone doesn’t think the same.

    • we are one, it’s called America, and this one prides itself on immigration and diversity. We have a right to believe in our own religion. We have a right for democracy, multiple parties. What you describe is idealism for communism. I’m sure this is not what you meant, but you are truly sharing the fundamentals of what this country tries to NOT be. Sorry, one doesn’t work in individual communism.

    • No, we don’t need to become ONE. We are individuals with individual rights. We have a right to be Christian or any other religion we want. Exactly what is the ONE you are proposing….your religion, based on your opinions? Your ONE = collectivism = equals Communism. No thanks. To be one, we all have to agree. And, I don’t agree with you. Good luck forming your own church.

    • No we need to become the opposite of one. We need to say “I am not my nation. I am an individual and if my rightful interests conflict with the arbitrary group of people called ‘the nation’ I will continue to pursue them. I will not accept the right of a group to control me or make me ‘one’ with them. The only power i will respect is the power of others to do likewise.”.

    • But not just humans for humans-We Must Act. If we don’t actively take part in our own salvation, we won’t have any salvation. Talking, protesting, wrting/blogging about it, voting(unless from the rooftops), are about 2-steps above a waste of time and resources. We must erradicate the worldwide tools of our authoritarian/totalitarian oppressors-Governments, Standing Armies, Banking, Money, Zionists(ism). If you think that can be a peaceful process-I have s bridge to sell you.

    • It’s about TIME! I wish ALL people would stop falling for the divide and conquer BS. Ignorant bullies are the minions of the corporate/wall street a-holes. Enough is enough! The Michael Brown shooting is just another example of the trampling of human rights, and the people who back the cops who do this crap because they’re white and think it will save them, need to wake up. You could not have said it better, dawg. Your 2 cents is worth billion tons of gold, and could turn things around if only we can gain some serious traction with this. So many ignorant white southerners seem drunk on (unearned) power…or maybe just plain drunk.

    • lets admit all the problems now facing up so we know what we can do to reverse this corrupt police state and forget our racist cliques and stand united or we will fall divided. now we need to thrwart the new world orders operations and stop waisting our families lives and switch to 100% organic food without genetically modified foods that in rats the experiment shows by only the third generation they are in bad health, STERILE, with all of their organs growing on the outsides of their bodies. gmo is genetic info spliced together with bugs genetic info to make the corn or soy immune to the bugs no matter what they are even if the crop is susceptible to several insects. MONSANTO the biggest producer of seeds that are gmo have all gmo free restauraants in their big compound and drink filtered water cleaning most if not all FLUORIDE or HYDROFLUROSILIC ACID which dumbs your children by on average 15 IQ points cause little boys blood-brain barrier is weaker than than the little girls blood-brain barrier, when they are infants so buy a propur 2.0 G2 water purifier that the filter takes 99.9 percent of hydrofluorisilic acid out, water is clean and pure no ammonia or other deadly poisonous biowarfare chemicals in combination with taking the IODINE out of all foods and salt to heighten the bad detrimental halogen gas fluoride to be more effective at slowly killing all who consume unknowingly.America is the most polluted country in the world cause lame ass people put up with all the bullshit and actually dumb enough to vote for obozo and all his total 180degree positions postings on all his so called bullshit policy of always harboring al queda aka.isis,is,isil,etc. trying to confuse the morons that cannot even tell which direction they are pointed even know the sun is on their back in late afternoon time. oh if i go on anymore i may have a blood vessel pop in brain. but if you want to find all natural non gmo, non bad shit supplements, all naturpathetics on infowarslife.com for nascent iodine, super male vitality, silver bullet colloidal silver works awesome better than any antibiotics fluoride shield, and many others. give it a try and you wont be disappointed i gaurantee. take all info and do your research yourself if you dont believe me and you will open pandoras box of the new wworld order and illuminati if you get on the right track.

    • The ideal of Freedom is the one thing that should unite us all. Not some social policy puked out by the Dems or Republicans. Freedom. The idea that We the People are more important than the Government. Period.

  • Gusty and Straight forward. Well done. Get on board boys and girls the train is leaving station. Realize the governments are well under managed with budget and over spent from greed. Switch to Hydrogen and Defend you rights as a individual. http://www.securesupplies.biz #hydrogen #hod #hho

  • The answer is so very simple. We must align our focus with the solution and not the problem. We need to collectively build something new rather than waste our energy, money and time on trying to change or destroy what already exists. We need to start as individuals and focus on ourselves, focus on being constantly mindful, constantly present and constantly aware of the effects we are having on ourselves and the people in our every day lives. Every single one of not just our actions, but our words and even our thoughts causes a ripple effect. It is our choices that we make on a daily basis that determines what kind of ripple we send out into our universe. Every second of every day we make decisions, whether they be thoughts, actions or words, the effects are the same from all three; what does make the difference is intent, content and delivery. All of those things together determine the effect that YOUR ripple has on the world and the Universe.

When I say the word Universe, you probably think of outer-space, the stars, the moon our solar system. You wouldn’t be wrong but it is so much more than that. It is the people in your every day life that your ripple effects, It is these constant tiny ripples that will make the difference. It is the smallest part of this equation, this problem that will end up being the answers and eventually the solution to ALL of our problems.

Every ripple you send out whether consciously or subconsciously effects not just the Universe but everything in it. Starting from something as big as our planet and as small as your children, grandchildren, neighbors and every single human being that we come across while going about our daily lives. If we can ALL make even the slightest effort to align our focus on ourselves and be ever mindful of the ripples that we are sending out and the effects those ripples are causing. Then and only then will we begin to see recovery.

      • Everyone has the right to voice.
And I have the right to say that this opinion is very candid and not very advanced. The kind of opinion I had in senior high. That’s very cute, but doesn’t get us very far (and is also dangerous when he says “he we’d been there we would have shown them” about Nazi Germany, that’s a very poor judgment). I love Matt Damon but he only gets the chance to expose this cheap populist view because he is who he is. So I suggest he does a bit more reading before taking the stage. Especially for a guy who co-wrote Good Will Hunting and hence, should know the value of thorough research before talking publicly.

        • Matt is simply reading from the Howard Zinn speech ‘The problem is Civil Obedience’. 1970. The late Howard Zinn was a historian, playwright, social activist, Professor of Political Science and author of more than 20 books. As your opinion in senior high was already more advanced than the great man I salute you.

          • Ho my bad, I’m the moron now 😀
I though he had written this text himself. I guess I should have read the video’s title.
Nonetheless, this text is relevant when put back in context but not very rich nowadays.

          • Thanks for your honesty. Regarding the ‘richness’ I’d point you to another of Zinn’s speeches

‘Howard Zinn on Democracy and Civil Disobedience’ where he explains how civil disobedienc
