No Cop On the Block

Remember when Federal Election Commission Chair Ann Ravel said the FEC is as useless as men’s nipples? Turns out she was right.

A joint investigation between NBC Bay Area and WRC (NBC4) in Washington shows that the FEC often “does nothing to enforce elections laws.” These laws are intended to regulate campaign spending and keep elections honest and fair, an essential part of preserving the integrity of our democracy.

Without the FEC’s enforcement, our election laws aren’t being enforced. In other words, there’s no cop on the block.

Members of the FEC say that political gridlock is to blame. That’s a shame, because at the grassroots level, Americans on the left and the right agree on passing (and enforcing!) tough anti-corruption laws.
