We’re quickly approaching the first presidential debate of the 2016 general election. Issues like climate change, immigration reform, and national security will probably take center stage, along with accusations about personal shortcomings and ethical gray areas for both candidates.

These issues are important, but they threaten to overshadow a major threat to our country: our broken democracy. All the other issues we face, on the left and the right, confront the same major obstacle: a political system that favors special interests and the wealthy political elite.

A group called Patriotic Millionaires is leading a campaign to make sure fixing democracy is one of the major topics for the first presidential debate.
